Having played the game...

...you gotta admit, were it not for that heartless whore Naomi Hunter, Snake could have spent his few remaining days with some measure of dignity and happiness.

Thanks to a delightful little cocktail of poison called Foxdie that she injected into him, he eventually mutates into a plague carrier who will kill millions by just being around them.

Hence, even if Snake WILL die old much quicker than most people, he could have spent his dying days surrounded by friends that care for and love him, but instead must spend them alone and with his guilt as his only company.

An end unfitting for a Great Warrior like him.

It is ALL that heartless whore's fault.

Didn't Big Boss say that due to the new strain of FOXDIE in Snake's system the old virus is dying off? I mean, yes, the new FOXDIE will eventually mutate, but at the rate Snake's aging right now he would die before that happens. Besides, he's got Otacon and Sunny keeping him company. I found the ending pretty damn positive considering all the things that could have gone wrong.

I played 1 and 2, but not 3. I didn't like 2 that much. Pretty overhyped game.

Now for 4.
It's a great game. Finally something worth spending money in such a long, long time. The cutscenes are stunning and, what's even better, LONG. Someone might argue that there are to much cutscenes and not enough playtime.
Another point..

MGS so far has been a stealth game with few shooter elements. But this game feels more like a shooter with few stealth elements. I'm still not sure if i like it or not.
Anyway, Story's great, cutscenes are great, bosses are one helluva party. The humor of the series is still there and ridiculous as always.

I'm on act 4 now (even though i tried to hold back and don't play so much ¬_¬) and...
Well, spoiler doesn't seem to work. But you guys in act 4 know what i'm so excited about.

It's a masterpiece of it's own though, for me, it doesn't surpas MGS 1 (which is one of my "greatest games of all time" together with 4-5 others), which i think nothing ever will, but is probably on the same level.

Now, i just hope there is some replay value like in it's predecessors. I want that stealth thing and the unlimited-ammo-bandana.
I played MGS 1 19 times and was able to finish it in under 5 Hours. Then, shorty before i wanted to play it one last time... i lost the CD. I'm still depressed about it. No one sells it anymore. ;(

They do sell it in a trilogy pack with MGS2 and 3 for 30 bucks. My roommate got it last week at bestbuy. Oh and I strongly recommend going back and playing MGS3 after you're done with 4, it was my favorite before this game came out.

Part of the game's brilliance is that you can choose how you want to play it. You could either run and gun through it (though I really doubt you can pull that off effectively in the higher difficulties) or play it in a stealthy fashion, like the other games.
And for the guy who called Naomi a whore...

She's really not... If you saw the end of the game, you should know that she kept going back to Liquid in order to help set up the crash of JD and the Patriots' system. She actually really loved Otacon.

For those that tried MGO how is the gameplay? Is the graphic as good as the single player mode?

I just finished the game, and it was quite an experience. Most dramatic last boss sequence ever. Though the story is a bit convoluted, a lot of things gets clarified. But more than that, I like how this game connects MGS3 (my favorite) with MGS and MGS2.

However, there are a few things I don't really get.

Spoiler for ENDING and then some:

At the end, Big Boss appears (surprise!) and reveals that his body was reconstructed from the body parts of Solidus and Liquid by—if I'm getting this right—Eva. Ok, I guess that makes sense considering the level of nanotechnology that's available in the MGS world.

He also reveals that he, Eva and Ocelot have been plotting the downfall of the AI system in order to find out the location of Zero and end the reign of the Patriots. But things have not gone smoothly, as prior to this chapter in Eastern Europe Eva tells Snake that she lost her ties to Ocelot when he decided to do his own thing in his own way.

The part I don't get is why Eva reacts so emotionally (to the point of jumping in and getting burned herself) when the remains of Big Boss' body—which is actually Solidus' corpse—gets thrown to the fire when she supposedly knows that isn't his body at all. Even if that's part of the ploy, I find it so unbelievable she would go that far considering their dire situation at that time.

On another note, I found the ending to be bit bittersweet for Snake. He may have earned his peace and his rest, but he has only a year to savor it. He doesn't get sent off in a heroic bang, but in a way it's more fitting this way.

Biggest surprise? Johnny Sasaki (who actually looks like a younger, more noob-ish Snake) somewhat becoming an important character. But man, getting married with Meryl after the initial confession..? A bit forced, but I guess love does bloom on the battlefield... at least in MGS.

Anyway, I think I misunderstood something back there. Some clarification would be greatly appreciated.

I suppose she figured if she'd want to fool Liquid she had to act as if it was the real Big Boss that was being burned. It was probably also a ploy to convince the player that Big Boss is really dead in order to set up the surprise at the end of the game.

That's what I'm thinking happened, if she reacted a different way then than the Patirots might of gotten suspicious. Another possibility is that she was in such a disillusioned and unstable state that she might of actually imagined for that split second that the body truely was Big Boss, sort of like she imagined Snake as Big Boss after they fell from the motorcycle.

I found the end to the game and Solid Snake perfect, I would rather see him die naturally from the rapid old aging than to kill himself or foxdie. Besides he gets to have Otacon and Sunny and live the little time he has left in peace, that's the least he deserves.

Finished it yesterday. Got Eagle and 7 other Emblems. Most People seem to get Eagle on their first playthrough. ._.
Good Game. After informing myself. Yes, there's indeed the bandana and stealth camouflage. But that'll take a while to unlock. Once again there's no Katana to unlock. Always wanted that. :x

While that may sound like a sound explanation, I still find it so incredulous. You practically have to rationalize such a reason because the game doesn't really offer that clear of an explanation at all. Her tearful cry at the sight of the burning corpse looks genuine and dramatic that it's difficult to reconcile it as just being an elaborate act all along.

Her death on the other hand, is explained in the end. She doesn't die due to her wounds but rather due to FOXDIE. Quite unfortunate actually. I wanted her to have more screen time than what the story affords her.

I agree.

The ending, like I said before, is rather bittersweet. The fact that Snake has rapidly aged reiterates one of the central themes of his character. He's a relic from an age of war long gone—a war that has changed in the present. Big Boss expresses the same sentiment when he says that the new world has no need of snakes, and tells Snake to spend his remaining days living in it.

Hideo Kojima hasn't denied the possibility of another Metal Gear game—just not about Solid Snake and under his direction—but unless we're talking about future prequels, just how will a new Metal Gear story arise from this? Pretty dramatic stuff in my opinion.

You know you played a wonderful game when you actually feel sad for finishing it.

I know exactly how you feel. It feels like an era has ended for me and there's a void in my heart now, knowing there are no more MGS games to look forward to (at least ones with Solid Snake).

In terms of sequels, there is the story of one Warrior whom I always wanted to know about.

A Metal Gear prequel set during World War II, telling the story of the Greatest Warrior of them all, The Boss Herself.

Imagine storming Berlin, Paris and the Beaches of Normandy, and seeing how she forms the Cobra Brigade.

That would be a saga and a half.
