The pre/sequel is to Requiem is "Mambiki JK Sei K-ON Bu" and "That is it". I haven't seen "That is it" yet but Mambiki (IMO) is more extreme than requiem.

For the sake of context it's good to know a little of the author's history to know why he tends to produce works like these. He's been dreaming and working towards going pro all his life (to the point of quitting his normal job), winning a few awards at competitions here and there, but never moved up since he was a teen. After a few decades you can imagine the amount of frustration that has been building up. The messages in the trilogy is simply his own take on life: "it doesn't matter if you give it your all to make your dream a reality, reality sux and you might as well accept a life of mediocrity"
