I agree completely. Part of understanding Nanoha, her personality, and her motivations was knowing her backstory with her family and how they treated her. It's understandable they got cut, but it still causes some major confusion for first time fans when trying to figure out why Nanoha is the way she is at only nine years old.

The first four episodes of MGLN boring? I thought they were paced very well and gave an important backdrop to Nanoha's world. There is a good mixture of side characters and action in those episodes.

Some people who recommend Nanoha suggest starting with A's, or skipping the first three or four episodes of MSLN.

that is a bad idea personally cause without it you could get lost in some of the back story that happens later on in the series then people are confused and start disliking the series more cause they didn't want to sit through the first what ever episodes that tell them what is happening

Why not just explain that the first three episodes contain background info important to the main character and suggest that you just stick with it for the best experience? Quote:

Plus MSLN does kind of overuse the whole transformation sequence, which turns off some viewers a lot. I mean, I like a transformation sequence too but MSLN uses it like every other episode...

Ah, yeah... the transformations. Not having a lot of familiarity with magical girl shows, I just considered them to be part of the genre and took them in stride. I did think the effects were pretty cool and they seemed to make the MGLN transformations something a little different (better) than others I'd seen.

I was able to put up with the transformations because I'd seen a few seasons of Sailor Moon, which is way too many transformation scenes anyone should be put through. Knowing it was only 13 episodes helped much in that regard.

Though to be fair, Sailor Moon had transformation sequences for girls that were 14-16, not counting Setsuna's age. Still strange to watch, but at least I didn't feel like a pedophile, in contrast to Fate and Nanoha's transformation sequences in the first season and A's... then Erio and Caro in StrikerS.... ugh.

Well, it's not that easy to convince people to watch the show from the beginning. A friend of mine is somewhat interested in watching this show (because I'm about to do another rewatch, which is rare for me) but, he's the kind of guy who only likes shows like TTGL. I told him not to even bother with it, which, is not cool on my part. Any idea how I can approach this without getting him to ragequit within the first 5 minutes?
