I think you're either missing the point or choosing not to see it, I'm not sure which.

A center nova who disappears no longer cares about those things. All those things that you list that you would miss, to a center nova who has reached that state, they truly do not matter. A center nova who did still care about them, who would miss them, would still be tied to this world, and thus would not be ready to disappear. They could not be in the AKB Theater and have regrets about leaving the world behind, have things they missed about the physical world. That in and of itself would mean that their soul was not in the right state to have gone there in the first place.

I find it extremely hypocritical that one says he/she loves the show and/or the music but dislikes, if not hates the real-life group based on it.

Otherwise it's the indifference that sometimes bother me, but then I'm not going to force anyone to like it... Just that even a little praise for those girls who tried the deep end of the pool that is voice-acting.

Gonna make this clear, because what makes it different is that the girls aren't just the voices but also actual performers, so they bring this authenticity and first-hand experience onto the table. Being a member isn't a status for bragging rights but something they truly earned by raw talent and will keep working hard for, as they develop into artists in their own right. What they'll become soon, I am not to know, but they're in a stage of metamorphosis.

*raises hand* I like the show, but I'm very ambivialent about its real-life basis. There's something ultimately skeevy and backwards about idol culture, but hey, that's how the entertainment business is.

That's that, this is this.
Besides, the more infamous parts of the real group doesn't happen in the anime. And if someone dislikes the real group for those reasons, they have no reason to dislike the anime that doesn't have those reasons. It makes sense to me at least.

While I did end up liking the group in the end, and would agree there is quite a few ways more to enjoy about this show if you do, I still do understand how someone could enjoy this without the need to care about the actual group, and maybe even dislike it.

I liked the show because I got attached to the characters and because I enjoyed the sci-fi setting but in the end I never grew to really like the group itself, respect them, sure, they're definitely hard workers but in the end the only song I ended up remotely enjoying listening to was Beginner, all the others do nothing for me.

It's really as simple as that,I've got nothing against the concept of idols ( I listen to k-pop ), but if I can't enjoy the music,I'm not gonna be interested in the group, the anime had other aspects that appealed to me and it's why I enjoyed it despite not really caring about the music.

I'm pretty much with sa47. Don't really see any reason to dislike the group. As far as I can tell, a lot of the themes of the anime of ordinary girls aiming for their dreams while carrying both friendship and rivalry towards each other are pretty true to life. On top of that the girls seem to be allowed to be pretty free/genuine with the yuri. While I'm not really remotely familiar with idols or the popular music industry (of any country), it does seem to me as if AKB48 are pretty unique/special in that you get to see more of their real personality and are encouraged to root for/get to know the members on a more personal, individual basis.

The concept of the group as a whole, and the individual girls as performers, are all pretty sympathetic to me. The only reason I haven't dived into fandom for the group is pretty much because I'm not particularly into popular music in general, and that I already have so many other interests in other directions that I can't really afford to get into another thing on a passionate level. However, if there's one thing I'm grateful to this anime for doing it would be for giving me an opportunity to learn more about the source.

PV for ED song "この涙を君に捧ぐ" is quite nice.
Do they make an anime version for this too??

Only the live-action is out now. No word for an anime version.

(slightly off-topic) I admit, what is more fascinating about the real-life pop group isn't just the songs (yes, I have some favorite AKB songs, for I still possess tolerance for pop music despite preference for 90's rock, Eric Clapton and Creedence Clearwater Revival), but through their blogs, Twitter, and G+... I'll never know whether it was done with intent or not but their descriptions of simple everyday life makes it all the more compelling to observe their progress as persons than any of the so-called "reality TV" shows; that is, nothing artificial nor any overt displays of ego or material wealth but rather the sincerity expressed by the girls, which is seemingly absent in most of today's entertainers (and also the WWE).

To be brutally honest, i just ended up hating this show and think little of the group itself. I don't want to be a killjoy though (which is why I didn't post much since i had little good to say about it. XP) so I'll put my thoughts in spoiler tags but I'm just warning people now that it's pretty negative.

Spoiler for rant:

A pity this girl was like the other 10 just background character (and even on the background they appeared rarely). From her looks she seems to be a cool character. Also curious why exactly her number is 7.5.

the mystery number? LOL
(maybe to symbolize her being in the middle - IE: not popular enough to be shown in front,
but not weak enough to be shown as developing)
It's like she's just... "normal"

O yea, I never mentioned this, but I actually didn't watch season 1 until like a month ago (which is than I did a marathon and watch the entire season 1 + up to current season 2 episodes)

Reason why I didn't watch season 1 before was because it didn't look that interesting to me back than, Idols in Space with Mechas, was the line that drew me away (+ I wanted AKB49 to be animated instead, LOL)

I thought the first season was better too, I feel like the second season got a little sidetracked and the ending got really rushed a result. It wasn't bad, and the General Election was pretty entertaining (if a little long) but I guess I just wished there would have been a 3rd season instead of cramming as many plot resolutions as they could in that last episode.

I, myself, after re-watching the final episode, also think that this is more likey to be the finale of one arc (Akibastar Arc / Center Nova Arc), not the entire serie.
There are many things unresolved.

Some of them:
- Takamina & Kanata
- Sono Papa assasination
- DES
- Entertainment-ban

For me was a beautiful ending, I cried a lot and I'm very happy for the New Center Nova.

For the life of me, it'll be best left unanswered, much as in the same way with the sudden demise of Ryoji Kaji in Eva.

I hope the home releases, both BD and DVD, should be director's cuts in which anything that was left out in the broadcast are included, or expanded upon on which to answer pertinent questions; we can't rely on the manga quartet as, um, "canon" because those are spinoffs based on the show.

--------------
Also, there's probably a reason why the writing rule of "show, don't tell" isn't utilized in this case (which could've removed the infodumps and the filler so that many questions can be answered): one of the primary purposes of the show is to educate non-fans, try to gain a wider audience other than anime or wota fans, and provide a little light to some (but not all) characters.

If "show, don't tell" were to be strictly used, this show would probably appeal only to the hardcore, all the while much of the theme and messages would be lost on its intended target audience of casual anime viewers.

Actually, no. Yui-han the 6th was a former center nova. Yui-han the 7.5th is a current member of AKB0048, but like the other 10 "new" members of season 2, she is just there in the background on the election arc.

Hardly noticed.

All right, that'll be one of those odd production decisions in which they were included simply to fill out the seats.
