Well, I just posted in AP about articles I read from Chinese websites and Greg confirms it.

On day one, Strong World broke the record and is had the biggest first-day opening for a Toei film [Anime OR Live Acting].

He didn't confirm the number I got, but from what I read it was opening day was 400 million yen and the previous record holder was 「劇場版 仮面ライダーディケイド/オールライダー対大ショッカー」 <Kamen Rider Decade The Movie: All Riders vs. Dai-Shocker> with 247 million in 345 theaters this and the biggest film ever for Toei was 「男たちの大和」 <Otoko-Tachi no Yamato> in 2005 with 5.1billion yen in box office and its opening was only 170 million yen in 290 theater.

and compare to last year Toei's largest film 「相棒 劇場版/絶体絶命!42.195km 東京ビッグシティマラソン」 <Aibou>, it's gross was 4.41 billion, with opening of "only" 200 million in 300 theaters. The film rank #5 in Japan for demostic film in 2008.

OP opens in only 188 theater on 12th with 68 theaters sold out, and according to Greg's video, standing room ticket was sold as well [which happens often in Asia with popular films, especially in the citiies]

Well in Asia, Movie isn't the primary entertainment when you go out. You also don't see theater in Suburb area and HAVE to go to a city to see a movie, unlike in U.S where theaters are everywhere. There are simplly less theaters per person and most are at relative distance.

If you read my previous post, yes even though 400 million yen [ $4.5 million USD after currency conversion] doesn't sound much in U.S., IT IS good for more than TWICE the opening day of last years #5 demostice film, and did broke record as the biggest opening Toei ever had by more than 150 million yens.

Also, bear in mind that the cost of going to the movies in Japan is ridiculously high. It costs about 18-20 US dollars to go to one movie in Japan (about 1600-1800 yen).

Additionally, since the movie was probably made for about 7.5 - 10 million dollars (this is an estimate, of course), the fact that it made nearly 5 million on its first day is quite stellar.

Good to hear that the movie made 5.1 billion yen in the box office. Any chance of someone making a summary of the entire movie since I'm one of the One Piece fans that lives in America?

Bit of an update for those foreigners who want to see the movie. Apparently there's rumors flying around that Funimation's going to be releasing a streamed and English subbed version of the movie on December 21st on their website.

Keep in mind this is just a rumor for the time being.

Funimation didn't claim this themseleves, I got it from an unreliable source. Though a specific date is kind of convincing, I'd still say to take the news with a grain of salt.

Still it would be nice if this was true.

Doesn't sound legit to me, it make no sense for Toei to sell the right just a week after the film's release, especially for internet-streaming, considering they still want people to go see it in Japan and there are East Asian countries that has later released date. [For example: Release date in Taiwan was 2-12-2010]

Yeah its WAY too early... I guess Funimation will air it eventually in their website but it wont be in months.

Might be first quarter of 2010 though

Well, who'd have thought I would be the one to have a summary of One Piece: Strong World? I found this on OneManga.com forums.

Spoiler for One Piece: Strong World summary:

Going through Volume 000, I really liked the character sketches (especially Robin's ), and the many different "weird" animals were really neat.
