There isn't much trouble to translate that one and it is already done in the wiki. You can check the endinscroll, it has been retranslated already.

Hi thanks everybody who worked on the translation of the game! XD

I just have a question regarding if the game will work for me when it comes in the mail for me.

I bought Umineko Episode 2 and Umineko Chapter 1...what are the differences? Which one will play the game and english patch?

Thanks!

Well, first of all, the english patch only works with Episode 2. Second of all, you just wasted some money, as Episode 2 contains Episode 1.

No, we aren't. Since the Rokkenjima crew and site went M.I.A., sterling01 and myself begun this project from the same base: theace's translations, and later more people joined us.

"chapters" is the term used much like in any books, do not confuse it with "chapter" used for Higurashi.
The different stories or "routes" are called "episode" for Umineko.

That is to say, we released chapter 00 to 02, meaning the first 3 chapters of the first episode are available.
For your instance, there are 15 chapters in episode 1 (16 if we include 00).

Neither. I actually contacted a fansub group for that. Considering it would be unconvenient and rude to take on other people work (and trying to contact person who made it isn't exactly easy either), we prefered to get a version from scratches.

That said, it is hardly on a priority scheldule, as the translation itself is the main dish here.
Currently, chapter 3 is approximately around 50% of retranslation.

Adding a translation to the OP would just cause a shitload of patch issues

So don't count on it

I don't really mind the opening translation. As long as the chapters are translated, that';s all that matters...and I think you can find it on youtube... XP

Question, are you considering on working on the other games in higurashi as well as umineko once umineko is finished?

We don't have much future plans considering how big the project already is.
Furthermore, considering the series won't be done for 1-2 years (as it seems there will be at least 6-8 episodes), we will stick with the game for quite a while, if the boat doesn't sink, of course.

Currently, I think we might be able to finish the first episode by the time the third is released, hence I don't think we will have some "break" inbetween each episode.

Finally, considering the Sonozaki's activity, I think they are doing quite well. If we have spare time, we might help them if they need, but that's another story.

Anyway, regarding text insertion, I'm not familiar with the script requirements for nscripter, but why is it turning out to be so laborious to do?

It isn't anything hard or so.
Unfortunately, for convenience sake, the translators are working on extracted script. Hence, they are not working with the "game script" where every flag, such like "click mouse for next text line" command (which is @) aren't present.

As result, I and Mion must check BOTH text (english and japanese) to find out where "next line" commands are placed or so, and you must also put ' symbols between text so the ONscripter doesn't screw up.
It isn't anything difficult, but it is really tedious. As far as I can remember, Chapter 1 needed like 2 hours to be inserted, and I had to test the insertion often here and there.

Hmm... yeah I was more or less aware of that. I was more wondering in the lines if the way the script used for translation was extracted and cleaned of nscripter commands was different enough from the original script for an automated insertion program to be impossible, or if possible, not being worth the trouble. :/

Sterling: Any news of any kind ? ...we could use an editor to make some of the corrected chapters sound more natural...

The Umineko manga is, I believe, being handled by Unasuvas, and possibly a friend of friends of hers.
