He didn't confirm the number I got, but from what I read it was opening day was 400 million yen and the previous record holder was 「劇場版 仮面ライダーディケイド/オールライダー対大ショッカー」 <Kamen Rider Decade The Movie: All Riders vs. Dai-Shocker> with 247 million in 345 theaters this and the biggest film ever for Toei was 「男たちの大和」 <Otoko-Tachi no Yamato> in 2005 with 5.1billion yen in box office and its opening was only 170 million yen in 290 theater.

and compare to last year Toei's largest film 「相棒 劇場版/絶体絶命!42.195km 東京ビッグシティマラソン」 <Aibou>, it's gross was 4.41 billion, with opening of "only" 200 million in 300 theaters. The film rank #5 in Japan for demostic film in 2008.

OP opens in only 188 theater on 12th with 68 theaters sold out, and according to Greg's video, standing room ticket was sold as well [which happens often in Asia with popular films, especially in the citiies]
The numbers I got were 553 million on the 12th, and 485 million on the 13th; this beats Ponyo's first two days, which were 1 billion and 25 million total last year. I guess the free Volume 0 helps.

Yeah, that's what i'm looking forward too.
Seeing how the previous movies are being released in Blu-Ray currently (7-9 coming out next month), i believe a simultaneous dvd/bd release of Strong World is pretty likely.

I want it on BR as well, I don't even care if it doesn't have subtitle, in fact, I'm sure I'll purchase it at least twice [Offical Japanese and Official Chinese] since the film is slotted to release in Taiwan and Hong Kong in early 2010.

As for those number, your right, the number you got was the final tally. The figure I got was from Sunday, and the source only said the box was "over" 400 million, so it wasn't the final, actual number.

BTW, ANN just release Oricon's weekly sales update, All 56 One Piece Books were on Japan's Weekly Top 200 Manga lask week.

Just got back from the trip to the theater.

Wow, what an amazing movie for a shonen manga series 0_0

The story flowed very well, and felt almost like a 2 hour contained mini-arc.
Also, one thing that I've always liked about OP is the interesting creature designs that Oda comes up with, and to have a movie literally overflowing with them was like a dream come true.

First day dvd purchase, hands down. And the best movie for the series period IMO.

It'll be 6 months. Considering that's about the time frame in which Movie DVDs are released in Japan.

It will be much earlier than that if you can accept lower quality. But I rather wait bit longer and experience movie with HD/DVD quality than watch it though shitty 340x460 resolution...

Oh well I was looking at that One Piece Special: Strong World and I spied that Nami has longer hair in the film, didn't know that from before.
She looks alot more mature with it, very weird how much her appearance changes with her hair different, considering the style of the series.

Other stuff is the character's in their Strong World getups, it's got(I think anyway) a summary of the whole anime series and movies also, whole load of Staff & Cast comments(I really want to know whats said there)

god I really really really can't wait to see this!!!

A DVD release date of the movie hasn't even been announced yet. Don't expect any sort of English sub/dub fan or official till it is released on DVD. =/

They released that Alabasta movie in the US pretty fast. I'm really looking forward to this movie either appearing in fan subs or in the US. Whatever comes first.

I've check out some summaries that roughly go over some details of the movie. Some interesting scene are happening I really want to see. Especially some scene that involve Nami and Luffy. Something about Nami trying to keep Luffy from hearing something. It was vague on the details though.

That's the last scene of the film from what I've read. Very heartwarming.
