Man I should get back into model building. I think I did an Abrams wayyyy back when I was a kid but the treads pissed me off and I never tried one again...

Oh, yeah, this show is cool and stuff. Naomi was pretty badass. Sanders really just needed the flag tank to do anything but keep going and turn the corner there to win, though. Turn and fight or hug the side of the ride would have been much better options.

Most likely fan made (scratch build). Official figures take a while to design and mass produce before being released. Usually months after the series ended.

An experienced modeler can modify a 1/35 figure or roughly sculpt one in a single day.

I don't think it's a private owned car. It's more of an advertisement one promoting the anime and Ibaraki.

Y'know, I've been thinking, and to an extent the Type-89's poor gun becomes a lot more forgivable if you don't think of it as a tank, and instead think of it as a tracked scout, like the M3 Bradley cavalry scout (carries less troops and more ammo than the M2 Bradly IFV). Afterall, the 25mm Bushmaster chaingun can't kill tanks...

To be fair, that's what Duck Team were doing in Episode 6; scouting.

If it had an engine that's worth anything I might be able to accept that. But as it is, a person could probably outrun the Type 89 on foot, at least over short distances. At the very least, a scout should be able to move quickly.

Also...Type 89 vs Firefly...ouch. A gun that penetrates and blows the turrets off Tigers quite easily vs WWII Japanese tank....surprised the crew actually still live...

The Type 89 (26 km/h) shouldnt get away from the Sherman (40km/h), but it was able to get some distance.
A better solution would have been, to scout on foot und let only a radio operator back in the Type 89, so it doesnt count as abandon.

The Type 89 is a very bad tank, but the Crew is awesome.
Hope these girls will one day get a better tank.

Whenever anyone mentioned the Type 89, an old story kept on surfacing in my head.

Bad doesn't even begin to describe it. It was so terrible that a US CCKW actually caused it to flip sideways after ramming into it. No joke

The Type 89 served its purpose: bring a gun close to the enemys machine gun nests and take them out. It didnt need much armor or speed for this.

It was never designed to fight other tanks or CCKWs

2.5 ton truck. Generally unarmed, although I imagine it could carry armed troops in the flatbed if necessary. Supply-carrier. Generally has no business being anywhere where there are likely to be enemy tanks around.

Certainly, but it proved handy as a last resort where a Chinese infantry driver of the said truck rammed into a Type 89, causing it to flip side ways.
