Wait. I is confused.

(Not that I wouldn't be happy about two TR series, but I think the other news had a picture of Munechika?)

OMG We're getting something this year too? SWEET!

I like Kashuu, though I'm not really a Shisengumi fan. I wonder if that's supposed to be based on one of the manga spinoffs?

Ugh, why couldn't the KanColle anime follow THIS format? It would solved so much of the anime's problems

You have all of these children, and two teenagers....while Hasebe looks like he's a dad trying to be cool..

I hope this isn't it though...where Mitsutada? Tsurumaru? Ichigo? the rest of the Shisengumi swords?

Episode 1:

Hmm, that was..alright I guess. I had the initial impressions of lighthearted sword theme show but it had short segments of violence in the beginning as well.

They introduced the main guys, not sure which I find most interesting yet but it's just the first episode so I'm sure they'll get more to the characterization later. Music is decent, animation quality is so-so imo, and the pacing seems moderate so far. Might have potential. The final few minutes really got my attention as it showcased some of the fighting abilities of the guys.

Also, CR will be streaming it.

Episode 1

I really think that Doga Kobo should stick to doing slice of life whatevers with as little action as possible because they clearly don't do fight scenes good. The other anime with some fighting I watched from them was Mikagura School Suite and that sucked in the fighting part. The fights aren't terrible here, they're just a bit too lackluster and kinda bland and that's not good enough for a fight sequence.

This show really isn't my thing. I didn't expect anything from it so I'm not disappointed. The problem I have is how the main character guy looks like a cute girl with that ponytail. Seriously, that guy could easily pass off as a cute girl. This show isn't my thing so I'll be taking my leave. I'll be waiting for the Touken Ranbu by ufotable because at least that'll look amazing.

So much hate for this show already...

But I do think that they could've written the first episode to make it more palatable for those who never heard of the game. Most people know about the Shisengumi..or even a little about Date Masamune/Oda Nobunaga but Western fans ain't gonna know who Yoshitune is.

And I say this as a huge fan of the game and characters.

Otherwise, I liked it! It's cute and charming, which is pretty much what I expected to be anyway since the ufotable series looks to be more action-oriented.

Didn't know about the game or this title before watching the first ep...took me a few minutes to realize these guys are actually reincarnations of the swords. The Japanese sure like to personify inanimate objects don't they?

But if these guys are swords...then what of the swords that they are wielding now? Swords wielding swords...

This looks like a fun series to watch but I'm really looking forward to Ufotable's version - that looks like it will be really good!

I was both confused and somewhat bored with this. There was an awful lot of characters and none stood out, the gags weren't funny either. Nice designs and OP, though. This seems more suited for people who are already acquainted and endeared to the characters.

Yes, I'll agree, that this Touken Ranbu anime is more for the fans then people who've never played let alone know about the game. A lot of the gags are likely to go over the heads of anyone who's not familiar with the swords or the game or the fandom.

For me, I enjoyed the first episode quite a bit. It made me laugh numerous times and I feel like Doga Kobo actually gets the fandom, and what many of us probably picture our swords doing while we're away.

Sending an oodachi to an indoors fight at night, what are you crazy! Ishikirimaru was adorable though, my favorite oodachi.

Without knowing anything about the franchise it did indeed give me the impression to be a "for the existing fans" kinda thing ... well, at least the first episode did.

Kind of an interesting idea but ... well, it didn't really hold my interest, so will prolly not follow up on this one.

Same here. I wonder how it'll differ from Dogakobo's plot-wise.

I left about 3/4 the way through, I may check it out later if the latter episodes get good reviews. I want to like this site base on the synapsis so I'm going to keep a eye on it
