In other words, don't read too deeply about that .

I guess I should not think about it much, unless they decide to mention something about it.

I'm still trying to figure out the appeal of Saki. Maybe it is the practically all girls cast? So far, I've counted 3 guys. The announcer, the butler, and Kyotaro. It could be the catchy music. I must admit, Gonzo has been making a nice comeback lately.

- The girls.
- Mahjong.
- The animation.

So they changed a part of Hajime's flashback. Not like it's bad. In fact, it's a little better in term of character development. I just want to see Koromo's outfit in that flashback (or they could include it later, who knows, since the flashback doesn't really portrait much about Hajime, but emphasize on Koromo instead)

Late-watch log, whooo boy. Kids these days and their internet-fu.

Spoiler for eps11:

Gotta love this line:
"Etopen is the main character from a picture book about a penguin who wants to become a tuffled puffin."
(sic) etopirika = tuffled puffin.

She looks both rebellious and elegant, which is a nice mix.

Also, Touka continues to provide the best reaction shots in the show.
Spoiler for Could it be the fact that she dresses like this:

Also is it just me or was Nodoka not wearing her skirt when she was sleeping there with Saki. Anyway, captain's "skill" is underwhelming to me because really all it is is extreme luck that defies the convention of how the odds should play out in a given hand.

Koromo's appearance in this episode makes me think that there might be another side to her that I didn't get with the manga RAWS (after all I'm not a hiragana or Kanji reader). Outside the Mahjong arena she's just a happy go lucky loli that wants to make friends, but because of how she destroys everyone in the arena (which she probably just sees as playing a normal game and having fun) people in the Mahjong world don't want to be around her and instead act afraid or offended by her presence. She actually appears to have the same problem as Saki had with her family and I wouldn't be surprised if that ended up coming up at some point and they ended up bonding.

It's not entirely bad. She trades a higher likelihood for a higher payout. Besides, it makes her opponents either more likely to play into her hand or to make mistakes while worrying about playing into her hand.

She isn't. It's even more obvious in the manga. This is one odd point where Gonzo actually toned down the fanservice. (page 112 and 125)

Respectively, they toned up the fanservice in the flashback by actually giving her a defined chest.

It's not so much the all-girls cast than the chemistry between those girls.
Shangri-La is the superior GONZO show this season and i watch it too (the tall okama scares me, though), but i watch Saki anyway for the (gasp) drama.

Koromo Amae is a complex character, relatively from the rest of the Saki's cast.

All should be revealed, hopefully.

If you have already seen HOW she destroyed her opponents, I guess it's not hard to understandable . Her technique isn't just a kind of "one shot KO", but a whole progress of torturing and pressuring.
But who doesn't love that kind of loli? (of course not when you're her victim ).

Hisa's play style is what I tried several times before, and you'd be surprised at how effectively it can be. I don't know about high level games, since I don't consider myself a good player or the ones I played against, but most of the time people feel safe and discard the tile that has low or worst odd at winning.

This ep is heaven sent to me. Many Hajime's goodness

They didn't show any mahjong in the next episode preview, dammit. I wonder if Bundou (and the other girls) will make a comeback against Risa in the 2nd hanchan? The tide did seem to turn a bit, but it was mentioned that Risa's defense is "flawless".

I also find it hard to believe that the 2 girls didn't recognize Koromo right away (one seems to not quite remember). How many other bunny ear-wearing loli high school mahjong monster players are there anyways?

People who lost early and don't care about who got the first place usually don't know.
Beside, I don't see much news about Koromo anyway. Most of the time it's Nodoka on the news.

Touka seems to have... a talent for recruiting people. Nodoka, Mihoko, and (Ueno) Hisa have a mahjong career, but Koromo is virtually unknown... until she crushed the Kazekoshi underfoot last year. also Hajime, who is exiled from mahjong until Touka bought her. Considering she travelled to the more tropical south Japan for Hajime, it won't surprise me if Koromo is kidnapped straight from Gensokyo. And then there's that one hell of a butler...

My opinion is that Touka is an incarnation of Cao Cao.

They should at least know about who you're expected to meet in the finals if they are planning to go that far (and judging by their conversations, they are were). It's funny that they dismissed Kiyosumi and got knocked out the tournament by them. We all know that Nodoka's getting the attention because of her looks and the fact that she was the junior high national champion. But judging from the fact that Touka seems to crave attention (ep.6) and can drag Hajime and her (other) maid Ayumu in front of the cameras, I'd expect she can do the same with Koromo (if Koromo shows up, that is).

I suppose that Koromo and Ryuumonbuchi came out of nowhere last year to win the prefectural tourney. Which would explain the lack of coverage and interest since everyone, like the reporter in ep.6, probably thought it was a lucky fluke for them to win. I assume that they got beat in the nationals early so they didn't get the extra notoriety. You've got to wonder what kind of monsters there are in the national tournament (aside from Teru and Jindai).

It's a bit surprising that Touka didn't recruit Nodoka since she's the junior high champion and was suspected to be Nodocchi. She could have confirmed the Nodoka - Nodocchi connection herself, then. Figuring out how to get Nodoka to play like Nodocchi in a non-net tournament would be the problem. Hisa figured it out during the training camp, I wonder if Touka would have.

EDIT: I forgot that Nodoka specifically wanted to go to Kiyosumi to be with Yuuki. Her father wouldn't have complained about her going to a backwater high school like Kiyosumi if she went to Ryuumonbuchi to play mahjong instead.

The manga thread seems dead, so I asked here instead. . . Does chapter 51 has been released yet ?

Now to comment about this episode :P I rarely comment Saki episode, but this one is an exception because it includes Hisa :x
Spoiler:

Oh wait, my comment is just about that penguin ;(

Hajime's flashback clothes was cool ! It's a little...fancy, but for some reasons, it suits my taste.
I'm also looking forward about what Mihoko going to say in the next episode..or if Hisa's going to remember her or not

What do you think Mahjong mostly is? Yeah there's some skill/technique, bluffing, strategy, but it's just like cards.... mostly luck to get the needed combo.

On one hand, yes. On many hands, it's all about maximizing the expectancy of your gains.

What part of the captain's round is it at now? I know it's in the second hanchan but that's all... Is it south wind yet?
