That could be true as well, but I'm speculating on that she might have had a tragic incident in the past (e.g. arm got shot away by DES, and had to undergo an operation in order to not die). A little cheesy yes, but still hoping there would be some explanation on s2.

I also think it was just a play on her "CG/Robot Idol" nickname. I actually won't be surprised if she turns out to be a full-on android. One thing to note was that she was a 3rd-Type instead 3rd-Gen compares to other successors.

Searched all day for an AKB0048 cosplayer, in the anime con that I attended today. Didn't find any..

The demographic-catering shows with the usual character designs and physiques are always the order of the day, I'm afraid to say.

However, a bunch of girls last month (dunno where he sourced his pic) pulled off a very good job:

In a few months time the situation might change (and by the way, a local Big Brother contestant-winner who's into cosplay... well, she damn look like a ringer for Mayuyu).

And the promo truck's a-rollin':

I wondered earlier today about girls cosplaying as AKB0048 characters. Wouldn't they have to paint giant hearts in their hair? I notice none of the girls in the photograph above have the mandatory heart shine. Who knows, maybe there will be cosmetic contact lenses with little hearts as well?
