Kou actually came back from Isekai.
His whole family got summoned, and they got taken hostage to make him work as the hero. But they got killed, and he couldn't support everyting, so he erased his own memory and emotions to make things easier. Then he saved the world, and came back to Japan (with a few things happening).
Then he's taken in by a rich relative who has an otaku daughter who make him watch lots of animes and create him a personality. Her objective being to make him a protagonist, but because of what happened in isekai, he doesn't want to be one, but rather a supportive role who lives his life peacefully. Hence why he thinks of his popular friend as the protagonist.

For the heroines: (from my post in Narou's thread + a little thing)

Ayase Hikari. MC's friend little sister. Nothing much so far, but she's in the title. (reincarnation of Kou's lover in isekai)

Kiryuu Kyouka. MC's childhood friend, but because he has no memories before 5 years ago he doesn't remember her.

Myourenji Renge. Student Council President. Second cousin, she loves him to death, but because he wants to be the "Friend character" she acts as one of the heroines of MC's friend (who he considers the protagonist). She's the only one who knows the truth about him. (Isekai and all) She's an otaku and the main reason the MC acts like he does is because of her "training him" by making him watch many animes. (After losing his memories the MC didn't have that much emotions, nor personality, so she kinda constructed his current personality)

Kazuki Rena. Liked MC's friend, but gave up because she's sure he likes his CF (or more like, she's scared of the CF who gives her murderous stares). Also she likes Track and Field more. A little intested in MC, and even more so in recent chapters after seeing him run really fast (wants him in the club). Seems like she has monster stamina as she's able to keep up with him while he uses strengthening magic.

Kinda wrote something quickly, so might be a little confusing.
