do they happen to bounce when you're fighting Ogres or dragons? becauise the game goes into slow mo when you Critical hit them (jump on them and kill them) one thing that pisses me off is the map movement, it goes Sooooo slow

It's very random, and can happen just about anytime. Sometimes when I'm fighting with slow framerate, the framerate shoots up, only to drop back down later.

oooh a dragon age thread !!

Well ima keep it simple and say, I <3 this game

It kinda feels like a mixture between Oblivion and Neverwinter nights 2. I had been waiting for a month in anticiaption and really happy it met the expectations I wanted !!.

Dialog so far is really good. Alistairs my favourit character so far. I like the dog too.

I wubing the storyline as it progresses too. even if I almost cryed at one stage :'(.

I havent watch anime in like a week or browsed these forums because I been too into it! Seems this game was more appealing to me than Aion was O_O

At first I was mumbling benedictions to myself under my breath and hoping to the Almighty that Bioware didn't just recycle gameplay elements from Mass Effect and Knights of the Old Republic (and Baldur's Gate, because I'm sure that's where they did some of the stuff first). Don't get me wrong, I love all their games but it worries me when I start describing things like Jade Empire as Knights of the Old Republic in Ancient China. Because that's exactly what it was. Very well-executed KotOR in Ancient China but I digress.

The backstories are really interesting and have a bit of dramatic punch to them; I can't be the only one who has to resist the temptation to do several characters and just see all the different backgrounds at the expense of actual progress. That said, after much agonising I settled on a human warrior (I'm boring like that) with a view to try out some of the Reaver stuff. Let's just say our intrepid lordling is very quickly losing faith in everything he sees. Since there's no one now who can help him, he'll go take revenge for himself!

Oh yeah, I do so love that dog.

yeah thats really amzing and awesome how the player can take down an Orge, kinda wish it had random ways to make it more awesome looking.

I got this screeny here of an Orge falling on poor Alistair as my main warrior lands the final killing blows. Alistair will deferently have the crushed/broken bones penalty after that kekeke

But one thing I want to add. The good thing about Dragon age, is that it holds similar traits to neverwinter nights 2. But what made neverwinter nights 2 hard for people to play (especially the newer people). That its combat was D&D driven. So if you didnt know D&D it would be hard to follow and plan how you want to design your character. I've never played D&D, but I've learn the system as I have played BG1, BG2, nwn and nwn2. But for others I've heard its really confusing alot.

In dragon age, it's a more simpler skills system. Any new player can pick it up easier and figure out how to advance there character. They get a full view of there skill trees and what skills become at certain levels. I've known friends who couldnt get into games like nwn2 because the D&D system just confused them. Cant wait to inform them of this game.

I sorta do wish characters still had base stats (meaning you choose only at the begining and it levels up occasionally in the game) rather than having the multiple points to add per level. Base stats such as, Dexterity, Strength, Willpower, etc etc. But I can cope with it for now

As for the almost crying <.<

Spoiler for Dragon Age early storyline spoilers!:

I had been a bit leery at first due to the trailers, but after doing some further research, I went to buy the game and by the Gates of Aiur... I have not played such a fascinating CRPG since Baldur's Gate.

The background prologue chapters were a brilliant touch, and it really made me feel like it was really my character, since I got to choose how I wanted to start the game, and not adopt a background.

For the record, I am currently playing a cynical casteless Dwarven Rogue, whom I plan to specialise in Assassination and Duelist. He's usually snarky in his replies, but knows when to be formal when the occasion calls for it. He is also a silvered-tongue charmer and not adversed to picking the pockets of people who have offended him, or the pockets of healers for their life-sustaining potions.

It's pretty cool to combat people via dialogue. I get a kick out of getting free loot just because I could persuade the person that it was for the Greater Good. It also gave me warm fuzzies when my character gives morale-raising speeches that instils hope and inspires confidence amongst the common folk as they harden their resolve to battle the Darkspawn.

The immersion factor in this game is huge, and there are just too many good things I have to say about the quests, and their level of interaction.

With regards to the romance possibilities... I have truly come to only one conclusion. Whatever happens... the dog stays.

The. Dog. STAYS.

My biggest gripe with the game so far is that I am forced to command the selected character manually. One of my biggest joys in the IE games was creating MASSIVE AI scripts for my characters so that the only input needed was to right-click them to where they needed to move. All combat mechanics were done by scripts. My proudest moment was in Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter when I succeeded in completing the game on HoW-Mode through my own custom scripts only. It was so freaking cool to see the party bring down the dragon-boss on their own while I watched on as a spectator.

I am seriously hoping for a mod to come out soon that allows me to craft the Tactics in Dragon Age in much greater detail. It's still a huge improvement over the default options in the old IE-games, but not to the extent of what I truly want.

Cheers.

I'm about halfway though I think, at about... 30 hours.. I believe, can't remember offhand.

The Tactics I thought were great. Not total automation, but close enough to not require constant micromanaging - unless you want to. I've got Wynne set up I don't need to switch to her except for group abilities.

For background stories, my mage is very polite always picking the answer that is the least confrontational. my warrior is the somewhat the opposite, so she speaks straight and is pretty blunt with her conversations.

I think of my character as a Paladin, a Knight of peace... Only going for the salution that spills this least amount of blood. but isn't afraid to bash skulls in.

I'm kinda looking forward to when my warrior gets to catch up with Howe later on (assuming you do), she's gona 'flip' and it'll be a blood bath if I can get it that way! Mage was fairly remorseful about what happened to Jowan.

I might go for a Reaver next, be a bit evil. Or an assassin maybe. Arcane Warrior I really want to on my next mage play through, not sure how to play it though... need to unlock it though!

Speaking of the reaver, I was wondering how to unlock that as it would be the perfect addition to my "That's all fine and dandy, but unless you are either A: Not a mage or demon or B: Prepared to offer me a suitable reward, I'm going to start stabbing now." templar. Imagine my surprise when I unlocked the specialization completely by accident.

when you save the elf Alienage or w.e I think the boss offers some kind of ENCHANTMENT to your health, i"m guessing thats it.

Playing as a mage who has an inherent distaste for blood magic (being brought up within the circle for her entire life after all), but after a certain event seeing how one can use it for the greater good, decides to undergo that path.

Kinda like the saying 'Guns don't kill people, people do'.

Second spec is spirit healer, seeing as she looks up to Wynne as her big sister and all.

Which brings us to the crux of the problem... trying to keep her blood magic a secret from her big sister. Luckily though, her big sister is an old bag, unable to recognize blood magic even if it was literally cast in from of her.

You mean the Dalish? I just let the two groups do the headbashing. That they ended up settling the curse by doing so was an unintended bonus.

Seems that even good things can come by coincidence. Oh well. *shrug*

Here's my female Berserker in her Juggernaut set. Alistair is going to take it over once I get his strength to 38, he'll use the Templar armor until then.

Man, Morrigan and Wynne look really lame with those hats. Wonder if there's actually any good looking robes/headwear for them in this game. x(

Morrigan's 'robe' doesn't look too bad there. Looks like the female version of the robe's my mage has. I kinda wish there was a way to hide the caster hats, they do look butt ugly.

There's a robe in Flemeth's hut for Morrigan too if you do her personal quest. (best in game? I can't remember)

Those two plate sets look awesome, I have the Grey Warden's armor on Alister atm, serves pretty well. All up he has like 40% or so of fire resist, works pretty well when he's tanking stuff inside an inferno! Kinda hanging to get a character that can wear the Blood Dragon armor, want to see what it looks like!

no the elf alienage or w.e in Daneram. the dude offers you blood magic ENCHANTMENT! to help your health, I'm assuming it gives you the reaver class.

You learn Reaver from Kolgrim during the Urn questline.

One of the more brilliant quests I have encountered so far. Of course, it helps that I have Team Snark (Shale, Sten and Zevran) who offer glorious comments during that questline. Like Shale, who when I pressed for more info retorted

"Why not? It offers us power, and all we have to do is appease its little god"

Which really made me wish they put in a "You know Shale? That is an excellent point. Lead on Kolgrim." answer. Of course the best one was Zevran's enormous relief if you deny you feel guilty about your origin's past.

Best looking armor I have so far. The helmet in particular makes me grumble that helmets often disappear in cutscenes.
