As for the bad game design... debatable. It certainly creates some amount of disconnect, but I won't call it bad game design. Given the choice between ruining the mystery or a bit of disconnect, I can fully understand why they chose the disconnect.

I'm not so sure about that. Most of my love for Tali comes from her cute way of speaking... and that bewitching accent!

I played Arrival, and I don't have any problems with Shepard's voice. DLC itself is a tad weak though.

The main reason it will be the default male shepard is because all three gamee commercials and trailers had him in it. So why change it? The same reason samus doesn't get a new suit or hair changed.

Anyways its also a change for male shep to get a bad ass japanese VAer, I nominate bakuyas va from bleach

Oh. Well, I play the best of both worlds. Male Shep for Tali romance and all-round wholesome Paragon guy, while Fem-Shep is pure awesome, butt-kicking, head-smashing, guns-blazing, bone-breaking, baby-chewing, puppy-kicking, kitten-stomping, and all-around badasstitude Renegade.

If you think about it, it's actually very simple.

The reason most ME fans like the female Shepard...

I personally like female Shepard because I identify better with female characters, and thus I always play female characters when I can, but I understand that the primary reason most MALE players who choose female Shepard is because they're terribly bored of the same cookie-cutter action heroes.

The voice acting is just a secondary issue, and it's entirely subjective. Some people hate Jennifer Hale, other people hate Marc Meer and a couple of people I know hate them both and think all video game voice acting is horrible.

Nothing to do with that really, considering Shepard's looks can be changed by the player regardless of the chosen gender. I will say however, that Western developers choose the bald male look simply because it's easier to render on screen.

A lot of guys who like playing as female Shepard (or prefer female avatars in general) do so because they'd rather see a female figure if they're going to spend all that time as that character. Personally, I choose the default look simply because all the customized Shepards I've seen, male and female, look ridiculous to me.

By the way, I'm not sure if this has been reported here already, but surprise!

There's going to be a Mass Effect anime—a feature film, to be exact. (There's also one for Dragon Age too...)

I tweaked my Shepard slightly... accidentally she turned out looking like Ripley from Alien.

I actually didn't change my Hawke at all. I thought stock female Hawke looked great.

I play male characters because I think of them as a avatar of me and romance the charavter I! Would like.

If you look at the pic I posted you'll notice he has full para and half renegade, that because I'm a ass to ass holles.
