Awesome! They going so slowly... looks to be at the right pace to where I want to end this series. IIRC, they only covered 1 chapter per episode? Man, that's friggin slow... not that I'm complaining mind you.
That said, holy crap it's boring for me being a manga reader, and this episode pretty much is a 1:1 conversion of the manga. Reminds me the reason why I don't read much manga anymore; once their anime counterparts air, I can't watch it lols. XD

So: bland directing; unattractive character design; flat voice acting. The only reason I'm still watching is 'cause of the manga's acclaim/reputation. I'll stick it through, but this this is a bit of a disappointment, to be honest.

You are my favorite poster in these forums ._. And I sincerely pray for that boy - be there or not someone to heed my prayer.
I see why people would find the pace slightly slow in the second episode but I didn't even realize that it was over until the ending rolled in so it's just perfect imo. Loved Daikichi's additions to the promise song. Loved Rin riding a Daikichi running away from the moon. Loved the moment at the end. That scene where Rin destroyed that house they were making was perfectly played too. This is a very good show; or has been thus far. |

damn...episode 2 was a T_Ter.....
much better than the first episode. First episode was just kind of setting stuff up, and now episode 2 is getting into the whole bonding and raising and relationship building... There's a TON of japanese tv drams with this same premise, and its always really sappy and sometimes its too much. Hopefully, since this is anime style, it can get away with that more.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-
I think I had several heart failures while watching this episode. Rin is just TOO FUCKING KAWAII. As for the story itself, it's really heartwarming to see how Daikichi is trying to adjust to his new responsibilities as a parent and how they're clashing with his work as a salaryman. I can definitely relate since I have a tight schedule as well, so that adds a whole other layer to the story for me. He'll definitely have to start being more organized if he hopes to keep this up. Production I.G.'s little touch ups like the flying animal icons at the Kindagarten and Rin's various faces also really help set the atmosphere and just calms you down while watching (as while as being kawaii as fuck). I never thought I would like and enjoy this anime as much as I do, but I'm sure not mad that I am. Hopefully they can keep this up for the next 8 eps.

I'm not a reader of this manga, and I enjoyed the first two eps a lot. I enjoyed how simple and straightforward this one was, dealing so directly with all the practical problems this situation has raised in Daikichi's life.

Manga reader here and I'm very impressed. Definitely one of the better SOL adaptations so far. I love how it is very genuine and down to earth in true classic noitamina style. Love how it portrays the lives of a middle age working man and an illegitimate child with great realism. Nothing too comical or dramatic and best of all no pedo nonsense. Also love the voice acting - no annoying high pitched anime girl voices!
9/10 for the first ep because they ommited Daikuichi raging at the family which I thought was significant, but 10/10 for the second ep for being so genuine and non-artificial. Portrays the true definition of slice of life. |

This is really worrying me. This anime is too heartwarming, things are going along too nicely.
I bet there's a going to be some really sad and heart-wrenching moments coming up. Damnit, we're not even there and I'm already dreading it D: That said, Daikichi is the freaking man. He's considerate and actually looks after Rin, and actually kept his promise, unlike most anime/drama that make the protagonist look well, stupid. Ah! My Girl (the dorama) is a perfect example of it -- then again the protagonist just annoyed me to hell. The manga did a MUCH better job (still is? I don't know if it's ended or what =\ ) Aishiteruze Baby was pretty good too, but only because come on, Kippei is a kid, and he had tremendous character development -- but still felt incomplete, like something was lacking. Usagi Drops has so far given me what both Aishiteruze and Ah! My Girl couldn't, and I could not be happier. It's just this damned feeling that things are going too well that I can't shake off that bothers me =\
