Something wrong with my codec

A step by step explanation :

1. I installed ffdshow and everything was going fine until i downloaded a movie (.avi) from a certain source and it turned out that it has no picture but there is sound.

2. I tried installing DIVX and XVID ALONG with ffdshow and turned out that i cant play all my .avi videos.

3. I unistalled all my codecs and installed the latest ffdshow back.

4. Now the normal .avi are back to normal. THAT movie now has picture but no sound (it says in the wmp that there is no codec for it) and worse movies like Kingdom of Chaos by SuYu now has squared pixels with a very bad quality.

maybe the file with picture and no sound uses AC3? Do you have that downloaded?

ffdshow has no problems playing videos encoded with XviD 1. Of course Sway's solution might help, but I'm not counting on it.

I'm not sure what you mean by squared pixel? Could you post a screenshot of the error? (That would be crtl-i in WMP or p in BSPlayer.)

are you sure you completely downloaded the file? cuz it looks as if it's partially corrupt there. If you can, try to download the file using bittorrent, resuming the download. It'll check whether the download was completed and fix any corrupted pieces. When it says finished hopefully the file will play fine.

Thats what i thought at first, but nope it was 100% complete.

edit : it seems that only xvid 1 subs are having problems but installed both ffdshow and xvid but no success
