Peace Maker Kurogane

Plot Summary:
Quote:
With Japan in the midst of a bloody revolution, an elite cadre of samurai swordsmen known as the Shinsengumi must protect the embattled city of Kyoto. Tetsunosuke Ichimura has spent his life dreaming of working at the Shinsengumi, and his wish has recently been fulfilled. As a page for Vice-Commander Hijikata Toshizo, he is privy to a wealth of secrets and is among Japan's highest ranking officials, some of whom are actual historical figures. When a strange gun-toting swordsman, Ryoma Sakamoto, recognizes Tetsunosuke and his brother as the sons of someone he calls the "Peacemaker," trouble brews and the other Shinsengumi run the outsider out of town.

Full of action, this sword-fighting and gun-toting story is centered on the bakumatsu, a chaotic and bloody time of revolution that would ultimately result in the disbanding of the samurai and the opening up and Westernization of Japan. Fifteen-year-old Tetsu must witness the war around him, and perhaps gain some amount of wisdom about the samurai.

For some reason it does not look like a very peace filled storyline. XD

Oh I just realized I confused the title. It's actually Peace Maker Kurogane, another series. Seems like a new anime project based on the manga though.

So, is this a reboot or continuation of Gonzo’s Peacemaker Kurogane adaptation in 2003?

I kinda like Gonzo’s series, but I’ll welcome a reboot if necessary. Those who like Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X) might find Kurogane’s backdrop of the Shinsengumi during the Meiji Restoration period enjoyable. And of course, Hajime Saito is here .

And yet another old franchise gets a reboot for reasons I don't entirely understand... Although isn't the manga still being published, somehow?

IIRC, it’s still on hiatus or something. Might be another case of “forgotten mangas that never seen further continuation” like Yukiru Sugisaki’s works.

Wow, I haven't heard of this title for a LONG time.
2016 really is the Renaissance year for anime, for better or worse.

Uwah, serious flashback mode for me. One of my first manga and anime. Hope it's a continuation.

Seriously, though. What's with Japan and these come back projects? And can I get them to direct their attention at stuff that needs a remake? Like Flame of Recca? Please? >_<

Ah well. Peace Maker Kurogane *feels* old to me, even if it isn't at all. It's one of the anime series I borrowed from my cousin back when there was no streaming and I couldn't afford to buy DVDs like he could. Every anime felt new because all I knew about was Toonami/Adult Swim. This one didn't strike a chord with me, but I'll still give the new one a try, I guess?

What!? The manga is still on going monthly on Comic Garden.
When did the hiatus ever came from?

Maybe they're running out of new (commercialy viable) LNs & mangas to adapt . And maybe anime-originals with new ideas are considered too risky?

It does? Well, that's nice then. I guess I have to look for it again. I remember stop reading after the translation stopped for a while. And there was news that MAG Garden stop publishing and stuff.

Wow, I last read the manga in, what, 2009 or something? Stopped reading because there's no new books released here so I thought it was dead.

This trend didn't start with Osomatsu-san... They have been rebooting old franchises for a good while now, with Gatchaman (OK Crowds was an anniversary project), Slayers, Nurse Witch Komugi-chan, Ushio & Tora, LoGH & Arslan, there's even a Saber Marionette reboot in the works... :O (In the meanwhile I continue to feel even more like a jaded old fogey because haha, I watched this show as it aired. Well, watched a couple of episodes, at any rate, it wasn't my cup of tea.)

And yet nobody properly reboots Rurouni Kenshin. >_>
