I will make a million dollar bet that this does not happen. I can't lose with this kind of bet!

If it does hit, at least we'll have the designation of last humans to walk the Earth.

Any ways to survive may be successful if everyone coorperates.

So I'm saying this lines

>>> to those who plans to help, don't ask for salary!!!
>>> And please, to the government, no more building permits and additional taxes!!!

**if they insist, kick them out of the project.

I must have missed something. Why are people worked up about an asteroid with a zero chance to impact Earth in 2012 and 1 in 80,000 chance in 2020?

Hawkins doesn't have to be as worried about 0-G bodily degeneration as us

There are still theories for rotational sections that have not been tested as they are too large for even the current station design.

We need bigger spaceships or stations, both of which will likely require contruction in space on a larger scale than the ISS.

The best way for me is sending tons of nukes to the moon (until our supplies on Earth runs out) and build underground bunkers just in case of failure or "showers from the debris...

Doesn't that plan require the year to have a Friday, September 13th? So we will have to put that one off unto next year.

Friday, September 13, 2013.

In any case, if the Asteroid hits and humanity survive, the world goverment will have a logistic nightmare on hand.

Dust will cover the atmosphere for decades, affecting the yield on the harvest of crops and the quality of drinking water. There will be outbreak of riots and certain hard measure will have to be taken for generations to come.

I say we make friends with it.

I'm not entirely sure nuclear methods are the most effective. If it's a "spongy" rock then explosives will have little effect. I'm also doubting the world would be friendly enough to allow unrestricted nuclear use, considering we're all hyper-cynical and would freak, believing the nukes are directed at something on the ground rather than the asteroid itself.

Even against a common enemy, I doubt we will cooperate.

Humanity wont be wiped out if the asteroid hits. In order for humanity to bamish it would take a cataclysm of such proportions that 90% of all species on earth would disappear, this is a proven fact.

However, the asteroid does have the capacity to end our civilization, in the worst of cases that is.

Change your uncertainty on the nuclear option to knowing for sure it isn't a good idea. Even assuming that every country concentrates its firepower on a large incoming asteroid or comet coupled with the absurdity of having enough ballistic strength to actually destroy the object, I heard it would only end up changing a single giant threat into numerous deadly projectiles. And this is before the effects of using a nuclear weapon is added; the smaller rocks left in the aftermath of an atomic strike is now laced with radiation and still plummeting toward the Earth.

Hey someone else has been reading the same stuff I have!

IMO we stick a big rocket on the moon and drive it into the asteroid. Then we can use the moon as our big pimp hand against everything... (just ignore the completely screwed tides)
