By the way, "ジョン・ドゥ" probably isn't right way to write/pronounce "John Doe". I think it may be "ジョン・ドウ". One small "ウ" makes a lot of difference. I suppose this was just a slip-up in the case of the manga author. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hmm, for a first episode, it was ok. Kinda disappointed in the animation as I believe that CG was rather overused for no real reason, although the rest was fine, and as far as art goes, I like everything except Merry's eyes (yes I'm just being picky and dun like them black rectangles instead of normal irises :P).
The plot, on the other hand, started off very well. Kid who can guess what people can dream meets a girl from the dream world that wants to go back, the setting's good enough to keep my interest for now. Oh, the music was pretty good too. |

I don't see how it can express itself as a remake of Shakugan no Shana. I can see it being like Pandora Hearts with the character similarities but no other anime is coming up to my mind besides Pandora Hearts when I watch this. So please elaborate to us how this makes you think that?

But that has nothing to do with this show, I'm pretty sure that's one bit of knowledge that was purposely left out of the basis for this particular tale since it would only hinder the entire basis of the plot.

Anyway, I thought the pace was strangely slow, in what I have come to recognize as a JC Staff way. Are we so stupid that everything has to be this painstaking? But the look was fabulous, especially at the beginning, and especially Merry. Yes, that navel.... I liked the scarf or hair or whatever it is trailing around her. The eyes were weird but I think I will get used to them. Good character. And the lead guy is good, too: a nice combination of capable and confused. Even if he does look like Misaka Mikoto's twin brother. Yes, why are cats always bad guys? Perhaps because artists love cats (as I do), but producers are dog people? I do admit that cats are beautifully selfish. Dogs, on the other hand, are so slavish. Ugh.

Baaaa (image somewhat relevant) This seems to be the most promising of the starters this season. I'm particularly impressed with the newcomer Sakura, Ayane. The OP and BG feels tight and I happen to like the pace for an episode 1. There is a lot of potential with the setup with many directions to choose from. Should they team up, a dream prophet and dream hunter partnership would prove very interesting. I'm looking forward to that next episode and more midriff. |
