By the way, "ジョン・ドゥ" probably isn't right way to write/pronounce "John Doe". I think it may be "ジョン・ドウ". One small "ウ" makes a lot of difference. I suppose this was just a slip-up in the case of the manga author. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I liked the part where they do that close shot of Merry's bellybutton.

All I got out of this episode was that someone is trying to remake Shakugan No Shana. Which unfortunately doesn't give me the best impression.

^Are we talking about the same anime ?

Anyway .. as for the first episode .. I can't really say much, it was pretty weird but yeah, might be good. Either way, Merry is damn cute. And those clothes too .. damn.

Hmm, for a first episode, it was ok. Kinda disappointed in the animation as I believe that CG was rather overused for no real reason, although the rest was fine, and as far as art goes, I like everything except Merry's eyes (yes I'm just being picky and dun like them black rectangles instead of normal irises :P).
The plot, on the other hand, started off very well. Kid who can guess what people can dream meets a girl from the dream world that wants to go back, the setting's good enough to keep my interest for now. Oh, the music was pretty good too.

I don't see how it can express itself as a remake of Shakugan no Shana. I can see it being like Pandora Hearts with the character similarities but no other anime is coming up to my mind besides Pandora Hearts when I watch this. So please elaborate to us how this makes you think that?

Some of the stuff shown in the episode were pretty standard if you ask me, having said that I thought it was visually very interesting. I hope they focus more on the dream world and not on the highschool stuff.

Ya know, your mind doesn't create faces while you dream. Every face you see belongs to a person you saw at some point in your life.
I wonder if Merry has a real world counterpart.

From what I gather, she doesn't need to; MC saw her once before daydreaming.

Plus, I wouldn't expect mangaka to know or honor such details. Personally, it's the first time I'm hearing this, but it does sound plausible.

"Dreams" are made in the seconds it takes for people to transition from deep sleep to an awakened state and they have no meaning whatsoever. It's our conscious mind that tries as best as it can to attribute meaning to those meaningless things and in doing so it provides faces from people you have met at least once before to what it thinks are people in the dream.

But that has nothing to do with this show, I'm pretty sure that's one bit of knowledge that was purposely left out of the basis for this particular tale since it would only hinder the entire basis of the plot.

Well he was playing with her when she was little. That's shown in the OP. I bet he gave her the hat.

You either skimmed though it or simply looked at the pretty pictures. The manga has by far a better intro to the story. Though I wouldn't say the anime was bad by any means, just very very different with events; having read a little into the manga felt like this was some roller coaster ride.

I didn't mean to imply that there is any deep meaning behind dreams, because I don't think there is. I think the familiar faces has more to do with the fact that your mind doesn't create anything while you're dreaming, it just pieces together memories and thoughts. People in dreams that you don't recognize are people you've been before (maybe just for a few seconds) that your subconscious took note of for some reason.

Read the raw till vol. 4 but i still didn't get a thing since I can't read Japanese. But being John Doe must be great, he already has a large harem of nekomimi underlings.

I enjoyed her voice a lot -- but I thought it was more Hanazawa Kana than anything. Sakura Ayane 佐倉綾音:

Anyway, I thought the pace was strangely slow, in what I have come to recognize as a JC Staff way. Are we so stupid that everything has to be this painstaking?

But the look was fabulous, especially at the beginning, and especially Merry. Yes, that navel.... I liked the scarf or hair or whatever it is trailing around her. The eyes were weird but I think I will get used to them. Good character.

And the lead guy is good, too: a nice combination of capable and confused. Even if he does look like Misaka Mikoto's twin brother.

Yes, why are cats always bad guys? Perhaps because artists love cats (as I do), but producers are dog people? I do admit that cats are beautifully selfish. Dogs, on the other hand, are so slavish. Ugh.

I read (many) comments on other sites where people are complaining that they're confused. So, yes, apparently some people are that stupid.

Baaaa (image somewhat relevant)

This seems to be the most promising of the starters this season. I'm particularly impressed with the newcomer Sakura, Ayane. The OP and BG feels tight and I happen to like the pace for an episode 1. There is a lot of potential with the setup with many directions to choose from. Should they team up, a dream prophet and dream hunter partnership would prove very interesting. I'm looking forward to that next episode and more midriff.
