Zero Kara Hajimeru Mahou no Sho

Alternative name: Magic Book to Start from Zero
Author: Kakeru Kobashiri
Illustrations: Yoshinori Shizuma
Translation link: Here

Plot Summary:
Quote:
It was the year 526.
The world knew that witches existed, and that they practiced the notorious art of sorcery.
Nevertheless, the world did not know anything about the study of magic.

Our story follows a half-man, half-beast mercenary; humans mockingly call his kind the “fallen beasts”.
He always dreamt of becoming a human, but one day, he met a witch who would change his life forever.

“Do you desire a human form? Then be my escort, mercenary!”

The witch introduced herself as “Zero”, and explained that she was searching for a one-of-a-kind magical tome that bandits had stolen from her lair. Entitled “The Grimoire of Zero”, the book supposedly contained valuable magical knowledge that could be used to effortlessly bring the world to its knees.

Thus, in order to realize his dream of becoming a human, the mercenary must accompany Zero on her journey—despite her being one of the witches he so loathed.

This is the story of a haughty sorceress and a kindhearted beast.
Prologue and firsts chapter out now. There's also a manga version too. There's at least 3 volumes so far.

There's only one chapter out for this. You might be referring to something else: Re:Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu

The plot is entirely different as far as I know.

Finished reading.

That was interesting. I really like Fallen Beast and his unique predicament since it will make for some troublesome situations with how the church and people treat him and Zero's kind. The setting may be simple right now, but I want to learn more about it. Also, Zero's cute.

This was nice:

Just read the manga and I have to say this novel is very interesting...the main MC is a demihuman!

The Beauty and the Beast.

Japanese Edition is how I call this series, and for a good reason.

Oh I'm glad this thread got some activity. I was wondering if people were keeping up with it or not.

I'm really enjoying it. I love the chemistry between Mercenary & Zero and Albus is a neat side. Especially in the latest part. The world building is nice, too and it feels like a genuine adventure. I wonder how things will go given Chapter 4's title.

I just didn't know there was a thread. Sometimes it's aup to the thread creator to make it active when there is lack of activity.

I am not sure about that, it's more of cute and sweet rather than beauty.

You are right about Zero though, she is indeed true beast, I can't argue about that one...

That turned ugly really quickly. Thirteenth?

Mercenary is too tsun
Quote:
“Do not worry, mercenary. Do you remember what I told you?”

Tap tap, Zero knocked on my head.

“I shall protect you.”

I gave Zero a glance, tutting silently at her self-assured smile.

A few short words from a witch ain’t gonna make me feel relieved. I wouldn’t be a mercenary if I lowered my guard anyway.

Part 7 is up!

Quote:
As if she’d never seen baked sweets before, Zero nonchalantly took one from the plate, saying “at best, it’s just another tasteless food,” and delivered it to her mouth. In that moment, she froze.

As it turned out, “smiling like a blooming flower” wasn’t merely a figurative expression. The fact that I had the impression that she was normally expressionless and cold also added to that effect, lending Zero’s smile an almost lethal intensity.

After looking at Albus and (annoyedly) at me, she began stuffing her cheeks with the sweets. It appeared to be an overwhelming victory for Thirteenth.
Should have agreed with her, Mercenary.... but cute.

Albus also got a healthy dose of reality. He's had it pretty tough these last parts. While I don't agree with Thirteenth's methods, they're right.

I wonder how many volumes the anime will cover, especially since the 2ndary titles of later books sound pretty interesting:
Books 2-3: The Saint of Arcdios
Book 4: The Demon Princess of the Black Dragon Island
Book 8 :The Library's Custodian
Book 9 : Zero's Mercenary (Part 1)

There's 12 episodes but hard to say how much they're going to cover. Currently seems to be taking it's time to introduce the world etc so it's possible they could stretch out LN1 to all 12 episodes unless they speed up the progression soon. I don't know if the OP hints at something outside of LN1. Since 2-3 is a combined story I don't think they could fit it in, but it's not impossible they could do LN1+4 or something...?
