I'm pretty sure the Queen is just a puppet and the fellow commanders would rather follow Luscinia no matter how dirty his methods are. Well, some might defect, or a civil war might break out as the differences in idealogies (as well as the fact that Luscinia seems to hold all the cards) will cause a power struggle to take place.

Well said. Somehow I guess they missed it from particularly eps 1-3 even though it was obvious, I hope they get it now. Last edited by DangerMouse; 2011-11-20 at 14:47. |

LE Fam have been getting better and better!
I am wondering, with several characters returning already (Dio, Tatiana) and even the mention of Anatoray, will Claus be making his way back as a minor character or something? P.S: I think I caught a glimpse of Vincent Alzey in the OP when they are showing Alvis. :P

Nice, a vanship race! This episode was obviously very reminiscent of Last exile's seventh ep. I figured out right way Fam and Gisey would win by purging their fuel, what I didn't expect (and neither did the champion) was that Fam would use the hook to be able to take that turn at full speed. That was a well thought out move, albeit a dangerous one.
It looks the people of Anatoray have already settled on earth? Some of them, at least. I'm surprised they've managed to stay under the radar. Maybe they're only a very small vanguard. I hope Alvis will show up soon. I'm dying to see her. I don't know about key player, but just like other posters, I'm sure she will return. They wouldn't waste Maaya Sakamoto on a one-shot character, would they? Maybe she'll come back for Teddy

I cant help feeling that this episode, comparing with the same vanship race episodes in LE, far more inferior.
In LE, two episodes were used to render the vanship race, see how condensed they could be: -in the "Bright" side, we had Claus&Lavie, Dio&Lusiolla, Tatiana&Alister racing up, with the maintenance crew, involving very intricate character interactions. They also pre-run the race course to familiarize the whole course in order to win. At the same time, Tatiana&Alister performed certain covert operation. -in the "Dark" side, we had Alex going black auctions for fake Exile, confronting high-profile with Guild Queen, only to cover his real intention: to get one phrase of Mysterion. In this line, character interactions were the same intriguing: Alex, the Anatoray noble who tried to revenge for his son killed by Silvana, Guild Queen, the auction master, the Guild noble with Mysterion. See what happens in this episode, mainly two things: -Fam&Gizelle plunged into a race, without warming-up or any course pre-run, only because of a cameo fuel tactic similar to that in LE. They win. Period. Millia slightly confronted an Ades baroness, who could probably do nothing non-trivial in the main plot line. -Lusicinia's purge, smoothly conducted, case closed. Now one may find the problem: lack of concrete details, lack of intricacy, superficial character interactions, and on top of all, why rushed so fast? Tempo control is like hell from what I see in this episode.

Best point of action: Don't compare the race episodes or the series until it finishes airing. Watch Fam and then decide how well it rates compared to the first series. We've all had time to watch and finish the original Last Exile well before Fam is finished or even half-way through airing.
On its own, the episode worked well. The race episodes served different purposes so we're not supposed to be comparing them. The first series' race was an endurance race after all, of course it wouldn't last one episode. Fam's episode does these things: Spoiler:
Millia. Or both! But Millia before Teddy. |
