I always wondered why that girl was given so much time in the first chapter if we weren't going to see her again since the mc was going to be in another world unless she went with him.

I guess it was for this, nice twist. I don't like that the next arc is a movie. I hate that.

I'm surprised they didn't show Beta getting nabbed in the actual anime...maybe they'd think it was distracting when we just saw Shadow at the end ?

Yeah, they showed the reaction of Rose/Epsilon/Beta to Shadow vanishing but Beta just stood there.

In the novel she simply jumps after him. They should add this scene to the film.

It had bits of entertainment but not enough silly stuff like the tournament from s1. The ending was a nice touch.

In the last few years there's been a trend of putting a movie partway through a show so don't get dishearten straight away.

Recent examples are:
- Globlin Slayer
- Spy X Family
- Konosuba
- Jujutsu Kaisen
- Sound! Euphonium

And I'm pretty sure there are more examples.

Spy x Family's movie is anime original, as are many films that are injected in the franchises. That way they can add content without interrupting the narrative of the main series.

This film is a proper canon arc of the series.

Fair. I haven't been following Spy X Family so I didn't know that. The other examples I gave were proper canonical events though.
