"If he can stay awake" is a bit of an exaggeration. He's just kind of elemental. It's never been possible to really stop him from doing what he wants since he can literally kill anything with a moment's thought, so he kind of does whatever he wants, but he's more stoic and frank than dull or bored. There's plenty of interesting stuff going on too, it's just that any attempt to attack him directly immediately results in the would-be attacker collapsing.

Your mileage may vary, but I always have lots of fun reading this series. It's much better than it might sound from the synopsis. Without giving spoilers, I'd say to try watching at least one or two episodes, even if one is not a fan of overpowered protagonists.

Pretty casual Isekai experience .
Yui Horie really just walking in, giving some kids powers, and then abandoning the ones that don't ? The leads' banter seems fun. And all the casual killing . Witch lady is quite easy on the eyes .

Also, I hope they're able to handle the deaths properly. For the most part it's instantaneous, no shock or struggle, just instant drop. Thing is that it balances comical "battles" where anything that even looks at the guy with too much anger is suddenly dead with a very deeply chilling impact from the realization that yeah, it is instantaneous and absolute. It looks funny for enemies to just keel over, but at the same time it's a demonstration of his power beyond power: he IS death, the end of all somehow formed into a conscious entity. I imagine it can be a hard balance to make an audience struggle between mirth and fear. Last edited by BWTraveller; 2023-11-06 at 03:16. |

Honestly, I kind of wish they didn't have any of those effects with the death. No opening gates, no shining eyes, no waves, just "die" and they're dead. That was part of the fun, and part of the terror, as there was absolutely no "power" behind it at all. He doesn't actually "do" anything, he just decides someone should die and that someone dies. The absolute, instantaneous inevitability of it is kind of terrifying, even while his nonchalant attitude about something that's kind of hard to even call an "ability" makes it oddly comical. Overall though, pretty good adaptation so far. Though they kind of screwed up the translation. "That dragon just died, what the heck?" "We just crashed and now we're dead"... Yeah, not "we", "it".
One thing I'm pretty sure I remember being stated in the manga, if not the original, that I didn't see here: the "Gift" doesn't just give people powers, it kind of warps their sense of humanity. Other people don't matter as much anymore, thus the casual willingness of the candidates to leave the "failures" behind to die. I imagine the closer they get to full-on Sages, the less "human" they'll become, until as full Sages humans will be like insects, meaningless existences that can and should be killed if ever it suits your mood. |

The title is the best part of it. So far that's my feeling.
An overpowered protagonist can certainly work. It has and will continue to work. But the downside...is when the main character is fairly uninteresting despite being overpowered. The most intense reaction we got out of him was thanks to Dannoura's breasts . Besides the instant kill ability the only stand out thing about him...is that he's not as much of a psychopath as his classmates. At most I'd say he just doesn't care about much of anything. Also why is everyone including the main character an utter psychopath? What the heck is wrong with this class!? Did the gift install actually drive everyone insane? Considering the person handing out abilities was killing people for no reason...that seems possible I guess. Some were clearly here before but was the whole class? My condolences to the two classmates that didn't get powers and were left to die. What a garbage day for them.

And as I've said, I think it's supposed to be interesting in part due to the extreme deadpan combined with the extreme horror of an absolute "power". There is no escaping him, there is no comparing power, there is no measurement that has any meaning; as I said, it's not a power, it just IS, and while that can be very funny when you're on his side, it can be terrifying if you're not 100% sure he likes you. And yeah I've confirmed... Spoiler:

Well anime is a visual medium so I can get why they decided to add some special effects to Yogiri's power. They are also likely only clues for the viewers and not something that's actually part of the story.
A different heroine would have probably started a lengthy lecture about how killing is bad and one should try to always be friend with everyone, but Tomochika is better than that. The fact that the three classmates wanted to do things that can't be mentioned to her probably helped a lot. But the real heroes (or heroines?) of this episode are Tomochika's boobs. They are the reason she's still alive, after all.
