Might be that. These first episodes (EE and Sighs part I and II) have a really light tone, so the new art is not really a problem. It will be, however,on part III or/and IV. Lets wait and see how they are doing it.

Haruhi is above using general anime stylistic effects. One of the reasons I originally liked it.

Shame it doesn't use pratfalls though.

Agreed on liking the absence of stylistic effects... the first season had a lot of parallel to "dramedy style" like Hataraki Man (or even Kanon 2006). I guess like Heatth said, we'll see how it works on the 'serious' episodes upcoming.

This is true. However, it would be better if the style get more serious when we arrive in that scene. K-ON! style don't fit at all!

See like that: This episode had a better art then last week's. The next one might follow improving.

Agreed. I liked how Haruhi avoided the more cliched anime stylistic effects.

What do you mean by "pratfalls", exactly? I'm not sure what the term means precisely.

... Ah, so slapstick comedy and humiliation then?

Hhhmmm... this is a hit and miss for me personally. Bakemonogatari plays this perfectly, but I've seen other anime overplay it badly (a lot of harem comedies come to mind).

Also, I'm not sure which Haruhi character I would want to inflict the pratfalls on... it would ruin Koizumi's image and style, it usually doesn't feel right to me when it's done to female characters, and Kyon suffers enough as it is.

Edit: Maybe trade-off Haruhi's crazy financial penalties for Kyon suffering pratfalls. It would be funnier, and make more sense to me.

Perhaps "pratfall" is the wrong term... normally, it simply refers to falling on one's ass.

A better word would be "facefault", I suppose.

But you know what I'm talking about. Character A says something silly or unexpected. Character B falls over from the shock.

It's one of my very favorite anime comedy tropes, and I'd love to see it used in Haruhi if it could be.

Oh, now I see what you mean. Really exaggerated over-reactions, precisely like what Bakemonogatari does. Yes, that's truly hilarious, and I love it too. Kyon could use some variety to go with the facepalm, agreed. And it would be neat to see Haruhi "faint" over Kyon saying something particularly annoying to her, or see Mikuru go into shock over one of Haruhi's plans.

Tsuruya needs to be in there somewhere. She could fit either roll, though if she's the "faller", then she'd obviously be cracking up afterwards.

I disagree. Facefaut are funny, but would feel unrealistc in Haruhi. Kyon did have one, on Live A Live, though. Taht one was well done, because it wasn't instantaneous. It was growing on his face. Also, if he did it every time, that scene wouldn't be as funny.

Hahaha, the novel readers know that the editing of the video was quite "magical."

Why do we care about what happens to Mikuru so much? She turns out fine (very fine ).

Is it just me or has Haruhi been answering to questions that Kyon only asked in his inner monologue?

Happens all the time in the light novels... it happened a couple of times during first season.

Kyon's face is like an open book... and Haruhi had become a master in reading it.

My only problem is that the style doesn't seem to work well with Haruhi. Still, I've long gotten over that and really, the art style typically doesn't bother me.

Edit: Also, yeah. "Mind reading" has been done by Haruhi and Itsuki, I'm not so sure about Yuki or Mikuru though.

We could assume Kyon mutters more than he realizes... or that something more intrinsically strange is going on

This is the way I always took it too. Sometimes he's simply letting things slip under his breath. Other times like when she guessed that he viewed the town search with Mikuru as a date was by the expression on his face.
