That said. The only MMO's I liked are Ultima online(old 2d), Lineage 2(still the best look MMO to date) and Age of Conan(reminds me of L2 so seems interesting). All feature open pvp with anyone, but those games don't seem to fit your criteria. Though if you feel like playing a pvp mmo's those are probably the best. |

LOL I used to play Ragnarok Online. It was the first MMO I played. Man that was years ago. After that I played WoW and realized that Ragnarok was complete crap. I don't know if it's changed but back then it was nothing but grind. No story, no quests, no point. The character customization was limited to hats.
Age of Conan just came out, but I haven't tried it yet. It seems like it might be pretty good. |

Some argue the Episode quests aren't really "stories", but I personally enjoyed Kiel Hyre's quite a bit, and like the fact that Ymir's heart is an on-going "story" split across episodes. Ahhhh, want more info on the destruction of Morroc. |

Screw anyone do the quest with the walkthrough and keep pressing "enter". RO has many nice story, and they connect to each others. You will get to see how they connect while doing the quests.

Well I started playing when it was the free open beta. Wikipedia said that the game was released in 2003 and that seems about right. I did the pay version for a little while and I stopped before the 2-2 Jobs (Crusader, Rogue etc) came out. So yeah, about 5 years ago.

There's quite a few free online RPGs...if mainstream stuff like WoW or EQ isn't what you are interested in. Most are funded through ads or in game item shops.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_free_MMOGs The original poster asked for an anime like one, I'd have to suggest Dream of Mirrors online. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dream_of_Mirror_Online There's a link in the article to the main sight. It's completely free, though there's an option item shop. You can fly supposedly at level 15...no waiting til 70 in this game. The four races are human, sylph, shura, and sprites. The entire look and feel of the races, is decidedly anime. There's emotes that are anime related, sweat-drops and the like. It has decent customization...better than say WoW with all honesty, less hair/color styles and the like, but much better choices to have larger or longer hands. The Shura are very much cat hybrids, especially females--ie cat girls. The sylphs hover(without wings) all the time and the dagger fights by itself instead, hovering in mid air. It sports a job system similar to Final Fantasy 11, and a nice feature lets you change your stats based on your job. I haven't dabbled too much but it sounds like you can retain some abilities of your old classes...sorta like FF5. Massively did an article on it in part...it found 5 games better than WoW in individual areas. It was more casual friendly and innovative supposedly. If you are interested... http://www.massively.com/2008/04/01/...rcraft-part-5/ Edit... I forgot to mention you can get special friendship attacks with people. There's one for being friends, one for being student master, and one for being lovers. Also there's a crazy zodiac system and a red thread of fate that happens with other characters, though I don't understand the mechanics. Last edited by Telmah; 2008-05-25 at 12:50. So I signed up for the RO free trial and played for a day. From what I've played, nothing has changed. There still aren't any quests, story or direction. I got my first job then I had no clue what to do next. The only thing for me to do is go kill monsters and grind.
WoW has over 2,000 quests and there is always something to do. IMO the best part of WoW is leveling and doing the quests. Once you've done them all and are max level, the only thing left to do is PVP or raid. I played WoW for about 3 years before I got bored of it. The longest I've managed to pay RO was a few months. |

I guess I can't give you any advise, since obviously, you didn't go looking for a quest, and hope they will throw them at your face instead. Some quests aren't just talking to trigger, but you have to have a certain thing in your inventory, or just happen to walk pass them, or have to be a right job, and you will get direction.
Everything you have stated about WoW, are in RO. Not that many quest, but not easy to do. My opinion, don't give it any more chance, since this game isn't for you.
