If someones body is loaded with prosthetic limbs, does that mean only the fleshy bits grow old? I was wondering ever since MGS4 where only Raiden's head was still organic.

The problem is that you really don't want your attack BITs to be big, because that's mean literal drone that is admittedly would be an easy target. I believe this is why GN fang is so effective, they're tiny and simple.

This does not apply to shield BITs because most of the time they're stationary, and used as cannon fodder anyway. They might posses thicker armor and larger generator/power source, at the cost of maneuverability.

Probably, though prosthetic needs maintenance, the more complex the harder maintenance is.

If the BT bits themselvs only have 1 gun port but at least another 6 connective ports for the phalanx bits, would this affect the size? I'm sure there'll be aerodynamic issues but those I can deal with.

Then the main generators will stay with the BT units. The phalanx bits will only have minor energy capacitors and have the capacity to amplify, focus and project BT energies.

How come IS are specialized in one field? Wouldn;t it make more sense to make it good in everything?

The Second and Fourth generation covering that purpose.

So far only the third one which is overspecialized, due to their purpose of taking out other I.S. as fast as possible.

My guess about Gen-1 is that they're simple and functional, nothing special.

All the Gen 3's are overspecialized. Dpeaking of which, what's Akatsubaki's specialty?

It can change it's body structure for attack, defense and speed purpose. It's special ability is it's adaptability.

Though it cost a lot of energy to change configuration, probably the OTHER reason Yukihira is an energy chomper.

Can you really just pick up IS wapons and use them? Chifuyu and Ichika used swords without their IS'.

I'm imagining the phalanx units by themselves work well as sword bits considering their structure, however their cutting power is buster sword level when combined with the main BT units.

One off ability: Wisdom of Ninneveh
-This one off ability links Cecilia directly into the Blue Tears quantum processing system, sharing with her processing capacity beyond even those normally granted by the IS system hyper sensor.
-applications
--Faerie arrow: much like the "flexible" except this shot is technically more of a homing shot. This is done by using Nineveh's wisdom in conjunction with the energy projection of the phalanx bits. Cecilia can continuously track her shots and redirect them as the situation calls via the polarizing fields emmitted by phalanx unit.
--she can use all her bits at once.
--exceptional calculative ability as given by quantum processing.
-The downside to this is the duration of using Nineveh's wisdom. It's much like a drug. When you are too used to the world as perceived within the system, the current world becomes much too slow, too unstimulating as compared to while being in the state of Nineveh's wisdom. Withdrawal may cause depression. Then again, overuse may cause insanity.

Actually I already told you that before.

There's a difference between what Chifuyu and Ichika did.

1. Ichika used partial deployment.
2. Chifuyu literally just picked up a random Uchigane sword.

This is obviously a significant difference since in Chifuyu's case Ichika commented that it was a remarkable thing, but nobody was surprised when Ichika used Yukihira to fight the VT Laura. Similarly when Lingyin first displayed partial deployment, Ichika only remarked that calling out specific parts of your IS was a pro thing to do, while he was never in any way surprised that she could swing around a heavy metal fist.

Simply put, you use I.S. rifle without mount, the recoil will either tear your arm or send you flying.

You can use Uchigane sword, because most of the time it's just a huge slab of advanced metal. If you strong and skilled enough like Chifuyu, you can use it. (hence the sledgehammer analogue)

As box said, Ichika use Partial deployment in canon, so that's not really amazing. Cecilia also do this in manga with her big-ass rifle. As did Rin punch the floor and made a small crater. When you said paper mache, it's not untrue, they use PIC to compensate the mass and recoil, and took energy from the core.

Natasha is unable to move. No canon explanation rather than it's her CMOA and a last stand. my explanation: her weapon connected to huge cables for power.

I wonder if the shield has a range or something. Maybe getting close enough allows you to bypass it.

I don't know about other kind of shield, but Absolute Defense seems like has no range (or just very close)
