Good point, I suppose the great disparity between technology levels probably would not make it any different from The Middle East, in fact, it would probably make things worse. As much as I think in terms of comparing Eldant to the French or Russian Revolution, the big difference is that in France and Russia, the people of the country overthrew their own leaders. Not to mention ushering in utter chaos and another dictatorial regime. Point being, a country won't change unless the people want to change. Still, once the level of literacy increases (though that might take centuries), I wonder what will happen the people of Eldant find out about the French and Russian revolutions, not to mention the existence of forms of government other than absolute monarchy. Also, as per watching Miusel hit Petrarca, I am in no way a sadist, or violent towards women, I am very much opposed to that. Its just that sometimes when characters lay on the tsundere a little too strong, it gets on my nerves. Especially when said tsundere is also an absolute monarch... one of the worse combinations I could think of... Quote:

As literacy of folks rise new demands for rights will appear, but not necessary for demokracy which would come into play far later. With reasonable nobility it goes gradualy :
Monarch -> constitutional monarch -> demokracy Is also interesting that both in constitutional monarchy and early demokracy skilled nobles was usualy elected by their people. Of course if nobility didn't realised power of masses and just overulled any demands, it might get nasty. |

That said, more likely when connections between Eldant and Japan are more fully established, the Japanese might be more wise to use economic constraints to encourage the adoption of basic human rights standards, for instance, if they plan to start selling video games and anime, they're going to need electricity. Japan could simply construct more of those wind turbines like the one they built near the school and import other modern conveniences on the condition that Eldant adhere to a timetable to grant basic human rights to elves, dwarves, non-nobles etc. Once Eldant discovers the value of modern conveniences, they'd get to work on that real quick! All I see is a lot of wasted potential in this series, sure they've addressed issues such as democracy, education and class/racial equality but can't they go all the way? Like maybe supply Eldant with cannons and muskets and let them conquer that world and when Eldant is the top country japan swoops down with tanks, battleships and nuclear weapons and takes that entire world as their own? If only the country they landed in was ruled by a military general or something and not by a loli..
lol i'm only exaggerating, but when you have a magical bomb that is supposed to be a WMD but can be diffused with a simple fire extinguisher, it's not hard to imagine how to take over that world. of course we know this series' focus is on the spread of "otaku culture", and while for me it is a form of invasion and is not relevant to my point, I'm quite interested in what "otaku culture" would've been like if say, this series was made around a decade ago. I'm quite sure that instead of "top/bottom" "absolute territory" and other things, they would've taught "hyoi gattai" "kamehameha" and "law of equivalent exchange"

Technological superiority (which is debatable to start with - their magic just means they've developed along different lines, they may not be as inferior as we think) isn't always enough to conquer people. Or keep them conquered.

I actually prefer the premise of the series as it is now. It's about the way culture works, and how it's so vital to diffrent societies. I think the only real problem is that the harem antics while topical is just not very well handled. Had this series been a better exploration of it's own genre, it wouldn't be so earnest in using these poor techniques that Harem shows always seem to use such as throwing on extra harem members whenever the plot stalls.

It's always interesting and fun watching Kanou teach ^^
Those "kids" sure have adapted to otaku ways rather easily. Miusel truly is like a real life game/visual novel/manga/anime character. I kinda like her the most of all the girls. Elbia is sort of ok, but she totally has a scary side. Fun episode.

It's nice that they're arguing about game preferences rather than race, but I'm waiting for them to form multi-species alliances based on those preferences. (I mean, we saw elf girls against dwarf boys, even if it was over game. I want to see dwarf, elf and human big breast lovers against dwarf, elf and human flat-chest lovers.)
Also, am I the only one who thinks Shinichi isn't making enough of an effort to provide context and accessibility? But then, his lessons work anyway. |
