New Russian girl is clearly based on Lidia Ruslanova, famous Russian songstress who toured a lot on Soviet frontlines during the WWII. But I was unable to identify the prototypes of two other girls.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lidia_Ruslanova And I wonder if we will get a girl based on Marlene Dietrich here.

I'm actually more interested in this than the other two announcements. For as much as I enjoyed the antics of the 501st, this is a bunch of aces and/or prodigies who are essentially the best of the best.
This is the reason why I felt a bit more depth and attachment watching the 502nd because here you had a ragtag group of screwups and misfits who had to make do with their relative geographic isolation and having poorer logistics.

Now, this is interesting. Obviously idols are in so many series and writers would be influenced by the trend, but normally you would expect a new, idol-like character, or maybe an episode of story arc about an idol show for some reason, but not an entire new series revolving about it! Of course, as others have mentioned, there is a very easy way to connect it to the WWII enviroment, so it's nowhere near as jarring as initially thought, at least in concept, but we'll have to wait and see how it goes.
Now that I think about it... Hikari also wanted to shine, didn't she? Quote:
All that said, I do agree on this premise having potential, for multiple reasons: -Does something different by default. -New angle for worldbuilding. -Already deviates from some traditions, i.e, protagonist isn't a Fusou witch. -Idol shows tend to focus on quirky characters and their struggles, and the former is already one of the franchise's greatest strenghts, and the latter part might allow for good development. So, this is the unit where all the Hikaris who don't get the chance to show their stuff or recieve training by Rossmann go? Actually, I could see at least one girl being like that, would be the group's Chihaya. |

Cute big sister and totally not source of drama. Quite cute catgirl, and you'd think witches talking to animals isn't so weird, but isn't this a first? |
