So rather than fighting Neuroi... they play music?

New Russian girl is clearly based on Lidia Ruslanova, famous Russian songstress who toured a lot on Soviet frontlines during the WWII. But I was unable to identify the prototypes of two other girls.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lidia_Ruslanova

And I wonder if we will get a girl based on Marlene Dietrich here.

Basically, we'll see a Witchesverse version of Katyusha..

I'm actually more interested in this than the other two announcements. For as much as I enjoyed the antics of the 501st, this is a bunch of aces and/or prodigies who are essentially the best of the best.

This is the reason why I felt a bit more depth and attachment watching the 502nd because here you had a ragtag group of screwups and misfits who had to make do with their relative geographic isolation and having poorer logistics.

That's why I'm quite torned with that announcement. That doesn't mean that I didn't like 501st, but I'd rather see BW S2 instead..

And witch power with some drawbacks..(Georgette being a big eater, Hikari needs to touch the Neuroi, & Takami being vulnerable when using Absolute Eye).

BTW, how the Bandowitches (Bandori joke) fight if the Neuroi came to their concert..?

Hmmm...well it could be ok. Although not like they'd have to be witches either since they are idols. Not particularly hyped but this could be ok.

I guess these are witches who are too weak to make shields? So it was either doing supply runs or USO.

Now, this is interesting. Obviously idols are in so many series and writers would be influenced by the trend, but normally you would expect a new, idol-like character, or maybe an episode of story arc about an idol show for some reason, but not an entire new series revolving about it! Of course, as others have mentioned, there is a very easy way to connect it to the WWII enviroment, so it's nowhere near as jarring as initially thought, at least in concept, but we'll have to wait and see how it goes.

Now that I think about it... Hikari also wanted to shine, didn't she?

For me, unfortunately, BW was a case of great idea, terrible execution. I was invested in Hikari by the end, but the series as a whole felt lacking, or rather, lifeless. For instance, why couldn't we see Georgette going nuts about cleaning before the OVA? Small stuff like that make a big difference when piled up.

All that said, I do agree on this premise having potential, for multiple reasons:
-Does something different by default.
-New angle for worldbuilding.
-Already deviates from some traditions, i.e, protagonist isn't a Fusou witch.
-Idol shows tend to focus on quirky characters and their struggles, and the former is already one of the franchise's greatest strenghts, and the latter part might allow for good development.

So, this is the unit where all the Hikaris who don't get the chance to show their stuff or recieve training by Rossmann go? Actually, I could see at least one girl being like that, would be the group's Chihaya.

At least the main character is not a Yoshika clone this time. That alone makes it stand out for me. I'll give it a try.

I wonder if Leslie ("Roberta") Hope and Glenda Miller will grace the series? The sheer amount of WWII era talent they could draw inspiration from here is simply mindblowing.

I see the "shine" is on already.

Cute big sister and totally not source of drama.

Quite cute catgirl, and you'd think witches talking to animals isn't so weird, but isn't this a first?
