awesome great series. as expected from an adaption of one of my favorite games of all time..in fact i think i might go back and replay it. in the last episode i was pretty much hoping no other characters would die and luckily none of them did. it was pretty moving to see all the militia members go back to their respective homes the kinda the bittersweet happyness kinda feeling since i'll miss seeing them all together. i was pretty pleased when everyone got a generally happy ending besides frikken faldio. poor bastard deserves so much more for everything he's done. without his efforts they would've been wiped out several times over and his clutch sniping was pretty amazing. poor forgotten unknown hero they should've at least provided him with a godly memorial or something. besides that i loved the ending it was spectacular and i enjoyed watching the show from beginning to end

If they would of taken out 6-7 love triangle eps and lessen Fabio's role so he doesn't seem like the main character, then they could of use the time wasted on squad 7 character development! Yeah true. Tales of the Abyss was pretty bland and Sengoku Basara was garbage. I don't remember a good video game turned anime series. Does it even exist? Visual novels and euro -games usually do a whole lot better though. Last edited by Sassarai; 2009-09-28 at 00:11. |

I do agree Sengoku Basara was garbage though, I don't know why people liked it and why will it have a 2nd season.

Basara is more of "for the fans" fare. If you don't like the game, there is no chance in hell you'll like the anime, unless you do like men shouting at each other for no good reason. For me, Basara turned the few good female characters in the game into....

I'll never forgot how it wasn't until the 5th episode that we finally heard one of the squad 7 members speak.

The only thing I'm surprised about overall is that they didn't work in Enter the Edy Detachment to the storyline.
I mean, Edy was damned popular. Enough that she got her own fricken DLC. They could screw up everything else, but one good episode based around her Detachment and the sales from that DVD alone probably would have recouped a lot of their costs. |

I agree on the EtED thing. As long as the fan-favourite characters got their deserved screentime than that prettyboy than the whole series would at least be better. The studio pinned their hope on the wrong character who is quickly becoming a new symbol for a trainwreck.
Oh well, at least someone enjoyed the series. I don't know, I still think that the series would be at least a bit better if more focus is being put on Marina/Edy (and even possibly Jane), especially during combat. This series to me is even more disappointing than the "disappearance of disappearance". Kind of sad really. Maybe in a year or so's time I will watch it again without the influence of the awesomeness of the game just to see what the general public see in this series.

Fate stay night, Utawarerumono, Tears of Tiara, Street Fighter 2 the movie was some good adaptation of video games. For Gungrave, the episode 1 to 17 was pretty good, after, the part in the present is really inferior to the game, but the flashback was excellent. I also remember of the Sakura Taisen anime as a excellent adaptation. They changed many element in the story, but the show was more deep and dramatic than the game, they do an excellent job on the backgound of each character. |

Fate/stay/uta/tears - euro-game/visual novel which I've said does a lot beter. Gungrave just put me to sleep because of the slow pacing and the depressing feeling I get from watching it. (Almost turned me emo. A lot of people like it though, just not my type! Reminds me of Saikano.) SF the movie I haven't watched in a long time but I remember it being pretty decent. Sakura Taisen haven't seen or play it. |

Gungrave was pretty depressing. I guess that's why it had some sort of impact on me, though I was expecting the end, unlike Phantom - Requiem for the Phantom, which trolled us all fans.

Seems that the staff members who did Valkyria obviously have not played the game. The closest I could see for an ending from video game to anime was Makai Senki Disgaea for using the Normal ending. Too many cliches in Valkyria, especially when we reach the end with Max as the predictable final boss and his end.

I don't think that the game Valkyria Chronicles is very different of Utawarerumono or Tear of Tiara. Outside the battle, the gameplay is note really different of a visual novel (you just need to see the cutscene) If they made the valkyria chronicle anime like these anime, I don't think many people complaining about this. It's a good adaptation however. Quote:
It's a mix between a visual novel and a Tactical rpg by the creator of Valkyria Chronicles, Gungrave and Skies of Arcadia with Kosuke fujishima as chara designer (Tales of Abyss, Vesperia, Phantasia and Symphonia, Ah my Goddess, You're under arrest). It take place in a steampunk world (japan, france and america) between 1920 and 1930. The fighting system of Valkyria chronicle is very similar of the one of Sakura Taisen 3, 4 and 5. I have seen Valkyria Chronicles as the successor of Sakura Taisen. If you have a Dreamcast (sakura taisen 1,2,3 and 4), a PSP (sakura taisen 1 et 2) or a japan PS2 (Sakura taisen 1 remake and sakura taisen 3), there is no excuse, if you liked Valkyria chronicle, you need to play at Sakura taisen. The 3 first game have been translated on gamefaqs and the 5 will be release in america on PS2 and Wii in few month. The anime adaptation of Sakura Taisen remind me the manga adaptation of Valkyria chronicles, some difference in the plot, but a very good work on the side character. |

Ok. Overall said 6/10. The series had a good start but in the middle of the series after Fouzen this got lost into nowhere.
Also two important Key scenes are missing: Spoiler for Game spoiler:
As looking on that Jaeger has survived. My guess here is that this was just added as a fan service or at least because the series reached too much complaints. I wonder how Max would shoot in a full metall command bridge without risking hit himself or one of his men becaus of the repulsion of the bullet. Nonetheless Jaeger is alive but still strange how he managed to survive. My part. I stick to the game more. The anime had nice scenes and also many other interactions but as already mentioned after the middle of the series it got more and more worse.

I think another pet peeve/let down I had with the series was how they portrayed Max as wannabe Lelouch with absolutely no redeeming qualities.
Dude ordered the summary execution of one of his officers that had been torturing (admittedly non-darcsen, but that goes back to the RL parallels of WW2, eugenics and anti-semitism being pretty popular before Hitler's rampage) innocent Gallian civilians, as well as using them as human shields. The guy was pure evil no doubt, but he was a classy "honourable" solidly Lawful Evil evil and I don't think the show really captured that dynamic. |

Blah, I hate how Selvaria was portrayed in this series (probably the same as the game I assume). She doesn't think for herself and everything she does is for LELOUCH SAMA KAYAAAAAHHH! You can't be a badass character and obey such a jerk and wait on him hands and feet! Where's your pride gurlfriendz *snaps fingers* I know he saved your life but you don't need to be a tool for the rest of your life!
