Yup you heard, they are rebooting the franchise, this time under the helm of Robert Rodriguez.

Just a sneak peek for now, but I got to say, it looks bad. Given the performance of every other film involving Predators, besides the original, I got pretty low hopes for this. Robert Rodriguez could very well put another, if not final nail into the coffin that is the franchise.

If anything the AvP story had so bloody much potential without ever having to screw up canon of the alien or predator movies

But hey, why go for quality when you can settle for cheese?

because it's virtually impossible to have something fresh and new, the only thing you can do is put your own spin on an idea that already exists.

You know my first thought when I originally heard about the first AVP movie was "Cool, this should be awesome as the comics where pretty kickass" but no they choose not to stick to the source material and just made up a silly inconsistant plot that had barely anything to do with the canon of either.

They could have took out and replaced the aliens and predators with completely different/new "baddies" and called it something else and most people would be none the wiser.

I didn't even know Predators was coming back - this trailer does look better and interesting than the last version! will have to check it out!

Who'd want to see random aliens vs random aliens like that? The draw was the characters, not the story.

I'm saying that the only attraction to the avp movie was the aliens and predators themselves.

If you where to take them out and replace them with something else it would still be a bad movie.

There was no draw from the characters as most of them about 10 lines and die within the first half an hour.

They where pointless cash-ins.

god we sooooo need the smart guns to make an reappearance again, they were just awesome, one of the best sfx in films along side lightsabers.

which btw I hear AvP3 the videogame doesn't have the smart gun sfx!!! wtf is up with that?!

The Predator at the end of the first Predator had like one line in the end. And a diabolical laugh.

The only relevant human characters in any of those movies were those played by Sigourney Weaver, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Danny Glover.

Note: This is not a remake, but essentially Predator 3, I believe. Predator 2 left the door wide open with it's ending.

It's also been in the works since 1994.
