There's a few bits from the novels that got "lost in adaptation" that I think are relevant to some of things that have been discussed in this thread.
Spoiler for Novel Foreshadowing Cut From Episode 10:
Spoiler for Novel Version of Hospital Scene:
Might not entirely satisfy some of you people, but I thought they were points worth bringing up. |

If nothing else, the novels handled the hospital scene much, much more believably than the anime did. So yeah, that's good to know.

There is also a rather obvious answer to where hospital staff may be. Kirito was delayed a few minutes watching the end of the world and and such. So before that so did everyone else wake up. If there were more then Kirito at that specific hospital, then expect the staff to be busy checking up on the ones that awoke before him.

With 10 more episodes to go (I think), it may be too early to start exclaiming earlier threads that were started in this series will be ignored. Though, perhaps I'm being overly optimistic in that regard.
So many people acting like this was the last episode.

So yeah, it does feel like an ending of sorts, just not the ending of Kirito's story in total. I am looking forward to seeing "real life" Asuna and Klein. And I'm hoping (albeit just faintly) that we'll get to see "real life" Lisbeth and Silica.

BTW a friend told me a funny alt ending for last night's episode. XD
"I'm in a hospital... And I'm starving... Wait... Hospital food? SCREW THAT! ASUNA! ASUNA! MAKE ME A SANDWICH!" [Just a joke, don't take it seriously ]
