A Certain Type of Action Anime

Ok I'm looking for a sad/depressing and/or dark action anime.
+Slightest hints of romance
+Good art
+Good Music
-Terrible/annoying characters
-Shonen plot (but feel free to suggest it)

Note - I don't mind mecha, but i won't put it on the list below

Things I've watched that I liked
Darker than Black - 5
Fate/Stay Night - 5
Black Lagoon - 5
Claymore - 5
Elfen Lied - 5
Grayman - 4
Ergo Proxy - 4
FMA - 4
Hellsing (both) - 4
Zegapain - 4
Berserk - 3
Death Note - 3
TTGL - 3

Thanks in advance

not so much action, but you will definitely love Gankutsuou. But more importantly and with action, watch Baccano.

Seeing the thinks you've liked, I think you'd like Shakugan no Shana. For a BGM lover like me, it as quite a nice set of tracks in its arsenal so you might like it

Since you have two bones animes (fma and darker than black) I'll add another three
Xam'd: Lost Memories (currently airing)- great so far
Soul Eater(currently airing)- very nice animation and music
Eureka Seven- Mecha with a nice soundtrack, awesome fight
Shakugan no Shana
Code Geass- great but overrated
Baccano- Great music, loads of characters (no main), hillarious/crazy characters, no ending/ beginning

Thanks I'll look into Xam'd, Blood+, Ghost in the shell, and baccano! and about Shana, I've seen the first season, which was very good, but I've only watched the first episode of the 2nd.

Note - I REALLY enjoyed Zegapain, which wasn't exactly dark as much as it was depressing. I love how there was a mystery wrapped around their lives. The mecha action was okay, but the plot was superb. For those who have seen it, please help suggest something like that (hopefully not in the mecha department)

Zegapain is great! undervalued obviously, as not many have heard nor seen it. I can't really think of one that is like it... but with the dark atmosphere and mind-wrap direction, you might (don't take my word for it completely) wanna try an episode of Noein. It gets darker as it goes, the mystery gets heavier... and oh, I don't quite get the entire picture. It's harder to comprehend than Zegapain.
