Could this possibly be Keima's worst screwup since Hinoki?

Now that I think about it... he always seems to screw up with Chihiro. Back during her capture, he misunderstood her feelings too.

Whoops ... big, BIG mistake on Keima's part. Major error....

Wonder how he is going to get out of this one. To be honest at the moment I think he deserves any physical retribution Chihiro or Ayumi (Mercury) might dish out.

But ... if Mercury reveals herself in wrath against Keima's actions and Lune is right nearby, I would not be surprised if in the ensuing melee Chihiro would do something to save Keima's life and get hurt in the process - either hospitalized or even outright killed (wouldn't the latter be a huge shock for the readers!)....

Then Keima is shaken to the core, Mercury is revealed and informed of the bigger picture, joins her sisters and helps revive Kanon (Apollo) and Keima begins to seriously reflect on himself and the larger issues again due to Chihiro's self-sacrifice.

Not only that, but he pretty much triggered double death flags right there. Judging from the story's overall mood so far, I really didn't expect it to take a such a dramatic turn. I mean that wasn't even remotely gentle. That's pretty much the harshest possible way Keima can reject someone. I really really really hope this is part of his master plan, or something! (The final narrative line kind of gives a hint of that)

Keima might have felt that he was being put on the same level as all of the other guys she confessed. He thought her love wasn't genuine.
