I have every right to ask theoretical questions, like I did upthread. If you blow a gasket because I don't fall on my knees to worship whenever you pass by, then it is not my damn problem.

@yotty and maggie: Clearly, there are unspoken things that needed to be said, misunderstandings that needed to be solved. Are you aware that if you two were in an anime, it would spawn a 24 episode BL series with rabid fangirls all over it? All that's missing is a tragic past and silent BL tears of rage.
So let's smile, kiss and make up, lest you turn this to Junjou Macross... not that you needed much help, really. |

I have read lots of fragments in chinese but Google translate simply can't deliver the full meaning. I just could get bad impressions and summaries taken directly from a bad fanfiction.
I'm really sleepy now, so here is a scan and the Amazon rating (the worst i have seen for a macross product) http://www.amazon.co.jp/product-revi...DateDescending

Well... If you want one example, that certain scanned page is... describing Ranka's feeling to Alto. Yeah, all of them. Quantity wouldn't be bad IF the writing is at least interesting, however...
Boy, it was annoying to see the 'but's. I mean, really, do we need one and a quarter full page of dragged out shoujo-esque -no, I'm not kidding. Seriously.- description of what the heck does Ranka's form of love to Alto is...? (It's not helped with the damned wording being repetitive and annoying when you are reading it in a go.) Most of the reviewers get the feeling that the characterization here is watered down or sth, and then the scenes just don't have the emotional impacts like what they have seen from the movie. And then some. I haven't seen the details for the people who gave it good review, but the gist of the bad reviews are how much the novel is just... Blech to them. The emotions they feel in the movie just disappear in the novelization. -cough now to disappear to oblivion again... Damned charger busted on me and I have to redo 3 excel spreadsheets asdfhjkl /brain disconnect now/-

And hey, I'm just putting up the thoughts from the reviewers, no way I will ever buy a novelization of a TV series/movie I have never changed my stance in novelization of an original series after all~~

I can tell you some things but nothing for sure, all comes from google
- The main conflict is not resolved (maybe not even issued) - Pathetic inner thoughts from Alto and Sheryl regarding themselves and Ranka - Sheryl destiny is unclear, but she might be dead - Ranka writing Houkago Overflow thinking: I'll reach Alto no matter what - Author pointting out Alto will forget Sheryl (google says: forgetting the dead) someday and going back to Ranka - Alto depicted more gay than ever, some weird exchanges with Michel - In general, several scenes from movie not written, new scenes popping out everywhere. - Bad writing, even lack of spell-check Its really hard to find out specific scenes, nobody talks about it, just says is bad in a whole And the author is the same as the series novels. |

Uh, okay. ^^ That certainly is a bit confusing, given that the light novels of the series seemed to be well received in contrast. I think I won't speculate on why there seems to be such a difference in quality, because making wild guesses as to someones personal motives seems a bit out of place.

I forgot:
- Sheryl sings only for herself or for Alto, but Ranka songs are for everyone alive human or not, even holding a concert for the infected (whatever that means). All of this of course might be exaggerated for the reviewers. Yotchan probably has read it too and is waiting to make an impression. |

*coughIsaythiscomplain'soverFanDumbcough* But then I don't know the full context so I admit high chance I might be wrong. Still not happy with the writing though--I swear it's annoying there.

Okay, this is becoming to sound excessively like a giant troll by disgruntled people on Amazon.jp. ^^ It seems a bit too much... on the nose. Or maybe that is the long-awaited Ranka love letter her fans were so long waiting for.

Isn't that a bad song to try to reach another person with considering what its about? It sounds happy yes, but the song is ultimately about stepping back and cheering on your loved one to getting the girl that isn't you. If Ranka is trying to reach out Alto with the song, then her message to him, would be that its alright for him to chase after Sheryl.

Not so sure, i think the timing was the problem, like just after Sheryl's death or smthing

Or maybe the author wasn't trusted with the contents of the actual movie and his release date was one month after the premiere. And none of the things i posted comes from the Amazon reviews but from chinese ppl who I'm guessing has the novel in their hands Anyway, I'll try not speculate more until someone writes a proper english summary

Meh, I'll wait until I've read it (if I'm ever able to), but so far, I'm not impressed with what the rumours say. Were all reviews submitted on April 1st? |
