Nah, he was probably realy, really determined. Instead of freaking out, he was decisive about it.

Next chapter should be awesome, as always.

In terms of the anime, I agree with what was said earlier. I truly hope they can make it to the end, and if they cut out the 2nd Nanamine arc to do it then Bakuman's quality will skyrocket even more in my eyes.

If this is indeed the last arc and they need to finish the anime in one season, then Nanamine #2 is the first thing that I would cut. After suspending disbelief on the Mashiro/Miho relationship, that is the only time that the story slips into fantasy land with setting up a company with dozens of employees to write a manga. Whatever points they want to make ("So you otaku think you could write a better story than us do you? Like to see you try.") could be easily included in Nanamine #1. As far as that goes they could erase Nanamine #1 also, though since he is in the preview that won't happen. Started to reread that arc today and I have never had such a visceral distaste for a cartoon character who wasn't chopping up orphans. The kid is slimy.

Well, the only thing left from Bakuman will be it's finale season anime then, starting October.

Yep, my mistake, it ends with this week's chapter (officially released next week on Monday in Japan)...

That sucks. It's weird we didn't get any advance notice. They've been hinting it would be ending for a while now, but this is still pretty abrupt.

Oh boy, the heart was not prepared for this! It's so sudden.

I have confidence in this series, but an ending for me is a critical chapter and can often make or break the entire series. Not to mention Bakuman is the master of using timeskips properly so I was expecting a sort of "Future" scenario with all of our main characters (and their offspring).

Now it seems we may be ending at the proposal itself, and I don't know how I'm going to react to it until I see it all. Oh well, just "gotta have faith" I suppose.

Spoiler for impressions: The series was best at the start when Mashiro and Takagi were climbing their way up into the industry. I even sort of gotten engaged into the romance excuse plot they set up. But as time went by, I became more jaded as I noticed the series stagnating into a series of pointless plot threads and badly-formed characters. That, I believe, is when the whole plot took a nose dive (see Nanamine). That said, this last arc was a nice return to the plot. Sure, the conclusion was naive and unrealistic, but I've come to accept that overly optimistic idealism as Bakuman's schtick (see Mashiro's romance s/ Azuki and every single major plot arc), so I didn't really mind. While the cast wasn't all that colorful, the one character I disliked most was Takagi. People can say all they want about Mashiro's romance, but he at least knows how to talk business when it comes to manga. Takagi, on the other hand, cannot go through any major arc without worrying excessively about Mashiro. I'd say his indecisiveness is what killed his character for me. Anyway, I also disliked that the supporting characters gradually faded into the background in the later chapters.
