Are those big summons worth the chakra they cost?

Oh yes... she pwned a Manda who was preoccupied fighting off Gamabunta, Jiayira and Katsuyu... not to mention the sword she used to pwn manda wasn't her own fists but Gamabunta's sword. in other words while she did take him down, she damn well didn't do it on her own... she would have had a MUCH harder time taking down manda if he was fighting her and not two other boss summons (10 to one says she probably wounldn't have pulled it off)... heh, in a sence you could say she acutally sucker punched him

sucker punch i think is a bit of an understatement...

anyway...big summons are really helpfull in a fight. 1 vs 1 or 1 vs 100 (i know i know... ) ot doesnt matter of youre fighting a kage, jounin, chuunin, genin or a baby in a carriage theyre just darn good. definately not a waste (of course if used properly)

If you summon such a huge beast then mere jounins cant handle them...(take Morino Ibiki for example).

Only those like the Sannin (shinobi with those huge master summonings are extremly rare) can handle them...and it still takes them some time to do it.

They need to waste a huge amount of chakra to either kill them, immobilize them or defeating them.

I think those huge snakes during the invasion of konoha proved enough.
