The Spin-off of Haruhi Suzumiya
This thread is dedicated to the discussion of animated spin-offs, The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi-chan and Nyoro~n Churuya-san, that will subsequently be aired on the KadokawaAnime Youtube Channel as a series of webshorts.
The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi-chan by mangaka Puyo, and Nyoro~n Churuya-san created by Eretto (Utsura Uraraka) both started out originally as popular four-panel-parody-gag-manga with the animated webshorts only officially announced in the October issue of Monthly Shounen Ace that went on sale from August 26. To view English translations of Churuya-san please visit here. Keeping up with previous 'viral merketing' traditions, the http://haruhi.tv/ website was taken down on the notable date of December 18 and was replaced with a 404 error message depicting images of Haruhi-chan and Churuya-san as is seen below: Throughout the day, images and layout of the 404 error message had been rearranged and shuffled for reasons unknown. (most likely for fun to play meaningless head-games if you ask me lol =P) There are currently no release dates as of yet. EDIT: It is officially confirmed that the Haruhi-chan and Churuya-san shorts will debut on February 13th. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news...on-february-13 Talk about the official Haruhi spin-offs here, however many there are now.

Original Works
"The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi-chan" by Puyo is the official yonkoma manga and started serialization in the magazines "Shōnen Ace" and "The Sneakers" in summer 2007. The first tankōbon was released on May 26, 2008, the second on December 26, 2008.
"Nyoro~n Churuya-san" by Eretto (Utsura Uraraka) was originally a dōjinshi, published on the homepage http://u-u.2-d.jp/ and in three volumes (August 2006, February and October 2007). It started serialization in the magazine Comp Ace in November 2008. Last edited by M.Marangio; 2009-02-16 at 04:23. Reason: volume 2 released |

In a radio interview with the staff of Ga-rei Zero, they said that the production of Haruhi-chan has'nt started yet.
If the announcement is true then either AIC Spirits or asread will produce this spin-off. A release in 2009 is still possible since the YouTube episodes will be short. Links:
ETA: See below for a translation and the official announcement by KyoAni. Last edited by M.Marangio; 2009-01-23 at 12:22. |

Quote:
Here is the facts from the radio show: The staff member who was talking was the Ga rei Zero producer Atsushi Itou who also has "(The) Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (TV) : Planning Producer" to his credit. He is talking about long gaps left between seasons of series and interest in the show. He happens to bring up Haruhi and then says "As of the time of this broadcast, (subject unclear) hasn't done Haruhi-chan yet." Therefore, there is no reason to conclude production isn't in progress nor is there any reason to conclude that Kyoani isn't doing the production. Last edited by bayoab; 2009-01-20 at 00:34.
