Volume 5 was released last week. Still undecided on getting it, as it seems the reviews for it give it a lower rating than Vols 3 and 4. Not a good sign, for me at least.

Yoshino was nowhere to be found. Kotori doesn't make an appearance, despite her huge significant plays at the end of Vol 3 + entirety of Volume 4. Hot damn. The doM pervert is the one left in command of Ratatosk in her absence, much like in Vol 4.

The new AST member,

The love rivalry continues to escalate between Origami and Tohka.

General consensus seems to be that the story has dipped after the awesomeness from Vols 3 and 4. Not good - hopefully Volume 6 picks up instead of dipping down further. I think it's beginning to show that the author has no clue on how to balance the characters' relative importance and roles, resorting to taking out characters per volume instead. Which is kind of bad, considering that two new seireis just joined the fray, and four more are soon to appear, not including other non-seirei characters like Mana.

Oh and apparently one of the twins is a hardcore chuunibyou.

Volume 5 is pretty bad imo.

I think part of the reason is because it was rushed out the door so quickly.

The release date for volume 6 is ALREADY announced. In fact the volume 6 release date was announced BEFORE volume 5 because they are doing a figure promotion. This author must literally be writing as fast as he can and tossing it out the door.

Well, didn't read it yet but having some characters out of the scenary isn't sign of becoming a bad series, Index series for example has the titular character in the side lines in order to change perspectives. Sometimes is better to not have over the top consecutive stories or else the expectatives will grow more than the author can keep up to.

That's not the case here. It's not "a change in perspectives" as it is characters being put on buses simply because the author has no idea how to juggle their relative importance as the cast continues to grow, and the story continues to develop. Putting characters aside, then bringing them back with trifling importance is bad enough, but bringing them back with diminished personalities than when they started with is just worse. Especially when there's no sign of an upcoming development for them anywhere in the horizon. I want to read about characters, not plot devices in human form taking human action doing only the barest of things required to continue the plot and cater to conventional fetishes.

I'll go on about examples, but since you haven't read the series, I'll just bracket them for anyone who's interested.

A glaringly obvious example is with Yoshino - volume 2 put her in the spotlight, only for her to completely vanish in volume 3 save for a brief appearance in the beginning chapter, and then as a complete subcharacter who only gets a few lines and actions in on Volume 4.

Tohka herself got the same treatment, although not as bad as Yoshino. In Volume 2, most of her importance was to be an unwilling participant in Shidou's training and to be completely tsun around Shidou. Volume 3 had her do nothing but throw a monkey wrench in "Nightmare"'s date capture operation as well as poorly assert her character as "I am really clingy and helplessly attached to Shidou even though I was capable of separate thought and action in Volume 1" and then in Vol 4, to be nothing but a date rehearsal/tag-a-long during "Ifriit"'s date capture operation. Yes, part of that is because she's a maiden in love, but that part was only touched on during Volume 2 and then seemingly forgotten afterwards.

Now, Kotori gets the same treatment after the events of Volume 4, if the various reviews I've read about Volume 5 are to be believed. It's beginning to look like the characters had more personalities to them than before their seirei status got sealed.

And for non-seirei characters, even they are guilty of this. Origami for her part, in all four volumes, has done nothing but argue with Tohka, stalk and obsess over Shidou in her kuudere manner, antagonize the titular seirei thereby presenting Shidou the opportunity for sealing, and then get injured. Not even one bit of character growth or budge at the least. Her actions have been formulaic so far, which is a downer because she's one of my favorite characters so far, along with Tohka and Kotori.

I suppose my frustration lies in the lack of consistency.

chuunibyou= someone that thinks that they are like some kind of hero in the Real World/ cant find the difference between reality and imagination.........but in this case i dont think the spirit is called chuunibyou since she is "special' lol
