So, I rewatched the episode and what I thought was her boxcutter appears to be a candy bar. Ayu doesn't look at what she's picking up so it could be implied that she put the boxcutter away without looking at what it was but I'm kinda feeling uneasy now. The scene just doesn't work for me anymore, especially since when I watched Kanon 2002 the second time and noticed her grab at it the scene was much more powerful. Especially knowing that they may have saved her life with this event. At least in her mind they did.

2 point penalty to Kyoto animation for leaving out a very important scene.

Wow, I'm getting real nitpicky (sorry, I look like some lame idiot now ) but I've taken screenshots and I can't even SEE the boxcutter. If anyone finds it let me know.

Well, one possibility is that it may come back later in a flashback... as in "what you didn't notice then was..." That being said, with the heavy foreshadowing we've had up to now, you would have expected it to be visible if only for a second. All we can do is wait and see what happens, of course. This is probably the risk in being too familiar, but then again that's a big part of this show too.

Well, KyoAni did say that they were going to merge the five storylines into one coherent storyline( much like how Shuffle merged theirs' so that the non-Asa girls would support and complement Asa's storyline instead of conflicting with it too much), so some changes were probably made for Kanon as well.

Edit: Japan has one of the highest rates of suicides in the world (99 per 100,000 in 2003). This book apparently prompted a rash of suicides when released. Maybe, VisualArt's/Key doesn't want a repeat.

Being obvious may not be the best thing for public morale.

So, maybe this cute little bear is the culprit.



The blade only has to be sharp and they did linger on this picture. It does seem alittle out of place for it to be in a shopping bag. (Not being candy colored such as a Pez container or in any sort of plastic wrap.) It could be a retractible kind or maybe an art knife inside of a pouch.

Episode 2 seems very disjointed to me. It seems that KyoAni just takes whatever scenes there are in the game and paste them together. Ah well I can't blame them; they are trying to pull the impossible- an ero-game based TV animation that focuses on all major plot routes (5.5). You got to give them credit for at least trying.

In retrospect, I wish they would move slower for each scene (especially the reunion scene and the subsequent Shiori scene). I just don't get much "mood" from those hectic scenes.

Then again, if you split 24 episodes into 5 (and 1/2) routes, you only get 5 episodes per character....

But at the current rates they are using scenes from the game...do they have enough material for 24 episodes?

And it wouldn't hurt if they added in some original scenes as most otaku have probably play the game so many times that they can recite every single dialogue....(what, don't look at me )

So the neverending dream continues... (my comprehension for the first lines by Ayu's nonexistant, only fragments of it could I make sense of)

O dear god... one thing for sure, the clock scene is more effective than ever before. (Kyuichi snapped). The Jam scene was sweet and... scary in more than 1 way.
O yea, checker pant is STILL THERE. Just not as flashy anymore.
Detail, as mentioned before, is expected of KyoAni. The school looks better than ever. (looks even better than the school from SuzuHaru)
The rooftop. wow. I remember this.
2nd wave of Ayu torpedo. Evasion is impossible.
Music cues in at the right time..
and the 3rd attack was a miss.
There was a change with the Shiori scene, as said before... o well. I want to see how this will evolve itself later on.

This actually follows the Toei version of ep2 somewhat closely, well almost... I don't know on earth does KyoAni manage to stuff so much detail in the same allotted amount of time comparing to Toei.

Not hinting to the event of the Shiori route blatently is fine to me in retrospect.

O yes, major variation from the Toei... assailant did not jump out of a box, and the scene's not nearly as dramatic as Toei's cliffhanger approach.

I'm very happy with this episode, because the humor parts are spot-on, but especially because the girls start to develop their own personalities. Ayu is still sugar-cute, but she's beginning to fight back against Yuuichi. Nayuki also seems to leave pushover-mode (I loved her "Well, I am the track club captain" retort), Mai has a spine of her own, Kaori has MORE than the normal portion of that... good! And then of course, Makoto defies words ^_^

This is a quality show, and I'm having a great time with it. Please keep it coming, KyoAni!

Oh, and BTW: The sub is out.

SS-Eclipse subbed pretty quick. The RAW was just out a few days and they already had the subbed ready. Oh well, good for us Anyway, the scene where Ayu and Yuuichi tried to dodge each other...that was funny. I thought Ayu did that on purpose but I guess not. What a way to greet people Oh! and Ayu hitting on the tree was funny too

the bear is a pouch with the cutter inside (see pics in post above). It's approximately as long as Yuichi's hand from that picture imo. Most of it is being covered by that bag imo.

Orion has me wondering, would they try and downplay or even remove Shiori's suicide attempt? Leaving in her terminal disease makes her story fairly sad as it is but now I'm wondering if they're going to change her story so dramatically.

I have a friend who's attempted suicide twice in the last year now (ended up in the hospital both times) and I've already shown her episode 1. Just wondering how I should proceed. Thoughts?

KyoAni is not the type to ever alter the story plotline. In all previous incarnations of the story, I have yet seen a failure to totally leave out the suicide attempt. If your friend is going to watch through Kanon, it's really better off to make sure that you're sitting through with her over this. It gets fairly emotional...

Well this was very interesting,especially the morning scene with the clocks and Akiko's special jam.

Also is it just me or is 2006 Ayu very greedy now?In the 2002 version Ayu always shared her Tayuki with Yuuichi,but in this version she keeps it all to herself.

But AyU's tree bump was much better this time around so I'll forgive her XD

Wow that was yet again amazing. Yet again with have many more moe moments to add to the Kanon list. Nayuki's morning scene was a lot more enjoyable compared to Toei's version, they've done such a good job with her already. After that episode, i can finally agree that i'm liking this Yuuichi a hell of a lot more - he's just what he should be, right down to his perfect Yuuichi attitude. :3

Yuuichi lost in the school has to be a star-shinning moment already for the series.

Or better yet, don't show it at all, especially if she is still having suicidal thoughts. This title is an emotional rollercoaster that's now starting since Makoto and Shiori has been introduced. Even the original anime version didn't get into the suicide attempt that much. You only saw Shiori dive for the box cutter in ep. 2 IIRC. Nothing else. This version will prob be more detailed, maybe in flashback form. It can't be too in your face about it for fear of being associated with an increase in suicides there like that suicide manual.

Take for example that box cutter. It was concealed so that you're not going to immediately pick up on it unless you were clued in to look for one.

You can look here and ask these people for advice.

Recalled wrong. It was a yellow box cutter with snap off blades. The explanation was done in flashback in ep. 9 of the original series. I think that she didn't do the diving maneuver in ep. 2 of this series because she was the one to pick it up. Ayu was on the side with the book and pen. Cute bear was in the center. Yuichi picked up the snacks on his side. Of course, we won't really know until that day gets re-animated again from Shiori's viewpoint.

Whoa! Ayu almost lost it in this episode! She has a temper in this version. Go for it Ayu! Put Yuichi in his place.
