Ikki Tousen kinda deals with history like that though it has a bit of fan-service in it

You could try Blood+. The plot occurs mostly outside of japan and the characters travel to several different countries.

European history?

Blood+: it starts off in Okinawa (Southern Japan) and it later takes place mainly in Europe
Chrono Crusade: takes place in Europe
Emma: A Victorian Romance: romantic drama that takes place in 19th century Britain
Growlanser IV: a short ova focusing on European politics, rebellion and sword duel
Hakushaku to Yousei: it takes place in Britain
Kuro Shitsuji: it takes place in England
Les Miserables: takes place in 19th century France
Rozen Maiden: obviously an European inspired anime
Urda: occurs in WWII era in Europe

Sorry about the lame descriptions, I only watched Growlanser IV and an episode each of Chrono Crusade, Hakushaku to Yousei, and Kuroshitsuji. As for Blood+, I have watched about 30+ episodes, not very interesting.. There aren't many battles, more historical..
