Talking Happy Halloween!

Since nobody was mentioning it, i would like to say Happy Halloween everyone. Hope you have a good time, do some trick n treating, wear a great costume and not get killed by serial killers, supernatural creatures or otherthings in the movies.

Bye.

I wish I had the time to have some fun this Halloween. My buddy might be going to some parties at SF State...which is all the way on the other side of San Francisco from my school Academy of Art. But I've been so busy every single day working on homework and assignments I'm not sure if I'll even go. Plus I have to be at my part time job at 9:45 in the morning. So I think I'm booked. Hopefully I see some good costumes around the city today. I was going to wear one of my own but I just kept putting it off. Oh well. Perhaps next year.

I'm heading to a Halloween party tonight, other than that nothing else. It's not really going to feel much like Halloween today because my damn city decides to do Holloween trick or treating an entire week before the 31st and in the daylight no less. For childrens safety I assume, *sigh*.

Really, I'd expect all the SF State kids to go to Berkeley for the parties... that's what everyone did for every holiday (and non-holiday) last I was there.

Anyways, have a jolly halloween.

Indeed, here's my probably futile attempt at enlightening (or reminding, lol) a few peeps, since it is yet another pagan/Christian holiday that has been lost to commercialism:
(Least in Japan, the pumpkin sales must have gone off the roof) :\
Quote:
Halloween has its origins in the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain (Irish pronunciation: [ˈsˠaunʲ]; from the Old Irish samain).[1] The festival of Samhain is a celebration of the end of the harvest season in Gaelic culture, and is sometimes[2] regarded as the "Celtic New Year."[3] Traditionally, the festival was a time used by the ancient Celtic pagans to take stock of supplies and slaughter livestock for winter stores. The ancient Gaels believed that on October 31, now known as Halloween, the boundary between the living and the deceased dissolved, and the dead become dangerous for the living by causing problems such as sickness or damaged crops. The festivals would frequently involve bonfires, into which bones of slaughtered livestock were thrown. Costumes and masks were also worn at the festivals in an attempt to mimic the evil spirits or placate them.[4][5]
Which then follows and is linked to "All Saints day" (which is tomorrow, Nov 1st) and "All Souls day" (which is in sunday where there is mass to pray for those who have died.)
Quote:
The term Halloween is shortened from All Hallows' Even (both "even" and "eve" are abbreviations of "evening," but "Halloween" gets its "n" from "even") as it is the eve of "All Hallows' Day,"[6] which is now also known as All Saints' Day. It was a day of religious festivities in various northern European Pagan traditions,[7] until Popes Gregory III and Gregory IV moved the old Christian feast of All Saints' Day from May 13 (which had itself been the date of a pagan holiday, the Feast of the Lemures) to November 1.
Quote:
The commercialization of Halloween in the United States did not start until the 20th century, beginning perhaps with Halloween postcards (featuring hundreds of designs), which were most popular between 1905 and 1915.[34] Dennison Manufacturing Company (which published its first Halloween catalog in 1909) and the Beistle Company were pioneers in commercially made Halloween decorations, particularly die-cut paper items.[35][36] German manufacturers specialised in Halloween figurines that were exported to the United States in the period between the two World Wars.
Halloween is now the United States' second most popular holiday (after Christmas) for decorating; the sale of candy and costumes is also extremely common during the holiday, which is marketed to children and adults alike.
The last part was more for my note, i'd have thought thanksgiving would be one of the most celebrated/commercialised holidays over there followed by what you lot call 'black Friday' but i guess in terms of 'decorating' Halloween would be a possibility.

Anyways, whatever parties you're having/going to or neighbours you're hassling for sugar, be safe, be considerate and have a nice time.
