i was born catholic but at the age of 18 i left church(in Austria you have to pay church tax when you become an adult, i never believed in god and that was the perfect moment to leave the club)

Oh, generally whenever I mention my religion people descend on me in a fury of flames and arguments against it. At least that was how it has been the past few boards I've been at.

Oh, sorry. Basically, the main difference I was taught is that everyone in the Presbyterian Church is on equal political standing. AKA, there are no bishops or cardinals. We have heads of presbytery and stuff, but they have no real power. They just moderate the individual sessions of the churches represented by the pastors who have equal say.

We're also all for direct confession to God, rather than confessing to a priest who absolves you.

We also only have 2 sacraments, being Baptism and Communion.

We also are very plain. Like, we generally don't have statues or stained glass windows in our church. Like, we had to make an effort this year just to make it look festive for Christmas.

I'm sure a bunch of that is wrong, and that there are more differences. This was just what I was taught.

I'm an agnostic, not going to preach to others the meaning of life. I find it foolish to discriminate others based upon their beliefs, which in my childhood initially turned me away from organized religions. I do not care what other people believe in, as long as they realize their belief holds no more significance than the next person and that it does no harm to those around him.

I'm trying to find happy new thread, but stumble on this instead.

I'm a muslim, observed 4 of 5 pillars but not too sure about pilgrimage to Mecca (just not so spritual anymore like in the old days). Here in Indonesia most people observe their religion. They go to mosque/church/temple. And no one blame anime for making anyone less religious here

But I do believe In Jesus, and have accepted him as my Lord and Saviour.

I just think religion is man's way of reaching towards "God".

Well, the Hajj is sort of really expensive, and there's a yearly quota of the number of people allowed, so you really shouldn't feel so bad.

If your conscience truly tells you that it's true, then follow that path, who's stopping you? You have free will .

Strange thing to hear from a catholic. Most of the time they just push their religion onto others. Like jehova witnesses but then without going from door to door. When you say to a catholic your atheist then they look at you like your mud.. ^^

At least thats what happens most of the time with me. :P

Yep. That's why I apostasized. Christianity worships powerlessness and glorifies the downtrodden. Such a consciousness is not fit for me, who was born rather privileged compared to the majority. I cannot connect with the proto-communism whatsoever.

Haha. That may be true, but not with me. And according to my surroundings, people think of me as a highly religious person. I earned nicknames such as "priest-boy" in High School

I don't want to brag or go all "religious" on ya, but I've talked with real atheists, debated with them, disputed over and over again, and ultimately realized. If Catholics ridicule you and look down on you because you're an Atheist, they are not being very Catholic themselves. I'm only a messenger of the God whom I believe in. I don't have the power to change people's minds. There's a reason why we call that Free Will. I learned a lot from Atheists, and I am still on a journey of becoming more lenient towards other people's thought processings and whatnot, because two people can look at the same thing and see something different .
Everyone has to face it. These are the facts. Not everyone is the same.

But go ahead though, try me . I've talked with Atheists before, and I'll definitely try not to be anything near blind and ignorant . In fact, other churches, whether it be Mormon, Jehovah's Witnesses, or a sector of Protestant, they don't surprise me. I attended an Adventist church for a period of time, and interpretations and knowledge all comes from searching, not prejudice.

I find that a strange religion. Since it came from a book. And the author of that book clearly states that the book is fiction and thus he didnt set it up as some sort of bible. Its a book. He doesnt even believe in scientology himself. Weird religion? ^^
