I don't particularly see the problem with this.

Because not only are they copying the game's visuals, they're also copying its visual limitations.
As it is there's basically no difference between the two, and given that the game goes into more detail than the anime does, is no more static, and can be beaten in a couple of days while the anime will take three months to finish, why not just play the game instead, if you're interested?
That's my argument, anyway.

It's advertisement for the game anyway. Plus, it's animated and the game isn't. I still don't see it.

Well the plot isn't really new these days but it still can be fun to watch since the characters look more funny

My guess , people like the idol or the swimmer have more chance to be the culprit , you know nice person(facade) tend to be evil inside specially the idol

And damn Sakura Ohgami what a trap (Chihiro Fujisaki ? dat voice)

By some standards of animation, sure, it's animated. Hardly any more than the game is, though.

Yeah, I suppose the characters moving is almost the same as the characters not moving.

Hmm... I must agree that Asahina sounds different than the game. Is it because that Chiwa played too much cute character role recently?

This isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's still more than good enough quality for airing, and I will never play the game. Even if it's a copy of the original it's still fit for broadcast. It may be boring for those of you that played the game, but at least it's not Valkyria Chronicles.

Dangan Ronpa was my "ehh, it seems to be a popular choice. I guess I'll try it" choice for this season. I'm intrigued by the pilot and I am looking forward to seeing more, but I do have certain reservations.

The main attraction for me here is the varied cast of characters, as some of them are very interesting. The cast of confident female characters is particularly interesting, as well as the main character and a couple of the more normal male characters (like the Scion, and crystal ball guy). Especially with a plot like this, a series is very often made by its characters, and there's some potential in this cast.

The one thing that kills me though is Monobear. Call me crazy, but Norio Wakamoto Monobear would have me watching this series no matter what it did.

Just watched the first episode and all I'm truly impressed with what I've seen. I never played the original source material to know what's working with this animation or what isn't.

Quick question: Is the original game linear or are there multiple routes with multiple endings, culprits, or cases etc.

I was thinking the same things, but it'd be to "cliched" if that were the case. Granted she showed signs of being pushed over the edge compared to the rest of the cast, but it's something to go on for the time being. Putting aside the "beauty behind the mask" for now, I for one, welcome any cute trap characters, and I wonder how this one will fare in a psychological murder mystery like setting. I hope "she" doesn't get killed off... that would depress me.

The original game's quite linear, I'm afraid. Doesn't make it any less awesome, though.

However, it does have optional "free time events" where Naegi can spend time with his fellow classmates and strengthen his bonds with them after giving them presents. Each character has a little story arc during those scenes, but I have my doubts about them being featured in the anime due to the episode count....

That makes it perfect for transfer to a linear format adaptation.

Multi-route-never-please-anyone source material be damned.

Oh that's fine, just as long as it delivers on its presentation I'm sure this will be an enjoyable experience for me. Granted I never played the original game, so this is coming from me who's getting acquainted with this series for the first time.

The "free time events" sounds similar to the Social Links in the Persona series, . It sucks that it's an one cour series and there probably won't be enough time to depth into the characters "fluently". I think that the "key" characters will have decent time and focus, which is to say more than none, but we can't really say much since the 1st episode introduced the cast, the setting, and the situation.

It's funny to see the reactions for the ep1 being 90% identical to the game. I'd seen players who hated it being lazy and other players who love it for being true to the source.
Chances are they will have to mix it up now and then in the future since repeating the same sprite motions can get tedious and repetitive. Be glad that this isn't going to turn out like DS2A. Let me know if they get to butchered character traits

speaking of which, didn't the Idol outfit for Sayaka in the OP shows the midriff? how come the picture which Nikkan linked doesn't? Are there two versions? or is the anime taking liberty in the design?

Since I watched a few lets play since my last post, as well as demo footage:
Right now its pretty open whether they will go with a uniquie line of story or follow the game.
The demo for example had a different first victim than the final version had.
Im'm not so sure if going with the demo would be for the better though

I can tell I'm going to get a lot more entertainment from reading this thread than I am from watching the show.

What if one of them kills himself? That would count as a murder and everyone would know the culprit so they would all be free with only one person sacrificing himself instead of two or more.
