I do so enjoy these. I adore the younger Sheryl with her Pink Monsoon hat. I also love the one with Alto, very well drawn and the coloring and shading is simply excellent.

The cover for Ranka's single is rather sad. What they did with the fence is kinda neat I think, they put the fence there to suggest a barrier, yet with it fading out between her face and the viewpoint also suggests that it is not a barrier between us and Ranka but one between her and something else. Thus, the audience is meant to empathize with her plight, rather than feel like the audience view point is the object of her plight.

Or possibly from a more physical standpoint it's actually rather accurate to life since we have this wonderful thing called two eyes. If you focus on someone past a wire fence like that you can see the whole face because the wires are so thin that at least one of your eyes has a view of that part of the face. We see her face because that is the focus, but the fence is on the fringes because it is also there.

Either way, typically a fence without the fade out would put emphasis on the barrier with the person viewed as slightly secondary, but with the fade out the emphasis is more on Ranka with the barrier as a secondary force. Also, I can't decide if it's raining or those are tears. That's probably also intentional, even while the lighting suggests daylight. Raining in sunlight would have some kind of special meaning I'm sure but the only one that comes to mind right now is one that my second grade teacher told me about how getting rain in sunlight on your wedding day was considered lucky.

... I'm sure that's not the case. No, stop thinking about the wedding dress official art. Seriously, that teacher was the only person who ever said that. Anyway, you're meant to empathize with Ranka, and the song may or may not explain the rest, knowing artists.

I was thinking about how she got so hungry that she ate the fence itself.. and she's crying because now she got a stomachache.
