Infinite Stratos - Voice Actor Appreciation & Discussion

The purpose of this thread is to discuss, critique and idolize the Voice Actor cast of Infinite Stratos. Please remember that the discussion should center on their performances as professional voice actors and not on the show content (which can be discussed in the various Episode threads). Please remember this simple rule when critiquing a VA's performance or reading another forum member's critique:

• Don't take it personally.
  In other words, you’re free to disagree with another person’s opinion, but don’t flame them if they offer a well written and well thought out analysis that differs from your own opinion. Keep it civil.
  
  
• Voice Actors are human.
  Yes, it’s true. They’re human. Therefore, don’t just indiscriminately rip them and their work apart as if they’re inorganic objects. You don’t have to praise them non-stop, but be thoughtful in your criticism.

This thread might duplicate some discussion in the Episode threads, but it can also serve to demystify various VA roles, disseminate VA information (VA Bios, VA photos, etc) and provide cast information of various types as well as discussion about performances.

Even looking at wikipedia at Charlotte's description. i think Kana and Inoue Marina's roles should have been switched, unless Kana has a new vocal range.

agreed, it was quite fitting

though i'm one of those who liked ichika's voice

Watch Funimation's anime titles in English. Most of the voice actors in IS's English cast had done work (and still doing work) for Funimation's anime titles. Look here;

Having seen and heard IS subbed while recognizing many of the English voice actors from Funimation and ADV/Sentai, the only one that stands out as an interesting choice would be Shannon Emerick (Charlotte). I don't think she can match the original (Hanazawa), but maybe she can prove me wrong.

All the others are very good choices, including Monica Rial (Houki) since she has voiced mature characters as well.

I'm not really having any high hopes for the english dub. I looked at their previous works and tried to "picture" them as their respective IS characters. After doing so, I feel that the voices are not going to fit the characters well. Especially for Dan and Tabane.

I think Dan should've been done by Liam O'Brien. He's well known for:
Jushiro (Bleach)
Archer (Fate/Stay Night)
Gaara (Naruto)
Dr. Kenzo Tenma (Monster)

For Tabane, I think she should've been done by either Stephanie Sheh or Carrie Savage. Look here;

Stephanie Sheh:

Mikuru (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)
Hinata (Naruto)

Carrie Savage:
Satori Azuma (Bamboo Blade)
Hakafu (Ikki Tousen)

Solty (Solty Rei)
Mokona (Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle and xxxHolic)

They both have the potential tone/pitch to match Tabane's JPN voice actress.

Okay, sorry about the multiple posts but I thought that I should give my thoughts in regards of the English Dub for IS.

I just watched the first episode and I have one major question...

Why didn't you let Bang Zoom! Entertainment provide the English Dub, Sentai?!!

The English voices hella don't fit the characters.

Spoiler for Dub of main characters up to Episode 5:

They decided to try the accent approach for some of the characters...

Cecilia was very good. Laura was OK. Charlotte..... despite a matching accent, I still prefer the original.

Huang was also a very good dub. The others (including Houki) I was more or less neutral on.

I only got to watch a clip from episode 5 so I haven't heard Houki or Laura's voice, but everyone I heard apart from Charlotte is actually pretty good. It's just yeah I mentioned Charlotte because I really don't like her dub voice, Chifuyu sounds younder and Lingyin is sort of the same.

Now to hunt for more clips.
