Minecraft
It's about time a thread was made for this game. The premise is simple: you're the only guy in the world (unless you play multiplayer) and by day, you can do whatever you want to manipulate the environment. But at night, zombies and skeletons show up and try to kill you. The world is ever expanding horizontally, so you can keep going and going and going and going. However, if you dig deep enough, you'll eventually hit lava. Here are some videos to give you a general idea of the game and what you can do with it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myb4fmwpMM4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWPk5zlKAEM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnjSWPxJxNs its like 10 euros, which is 13 or 14 USD. well worth it. they should change the name to Minecrack.. Playing in a snowy landscape while listening to Gentle Jena from Planetarian is a surreal experience. especially when you get scenes like this: http://cl.ly/2YHb the graphics are purposefully chunky like that, and the dev team is one person.

The 3rd video is really funny. I actually saw this game a while ago on p♥2c channel. I trust you on the addictive part since it just seems like the old school runescape tactic of making you work4fun.

so, not only did i burn down my vacation home, as shown here: http://cl.ly/2a7K but i also burned down my main house, which was just a tree. as shown here. http://cl.ly/2bWi
i'm sort of upset... i need to relocate. and thankfully i found a suitable tree a good distance away. that also completely blew my mind. soooo freaking hard.

So i set the draw distance to maximum, and it blew my mind how insignificant i am in the grand world of this game:
http://cl.ly/2kRQ all that despite the fact i had labored to build a 3 story house with lava lighting and an indoor waterfall and pools.

you mine and you craft things. pretty much it. it can be as grand or as mundane as you'd like. so i read the map expands to 6x the size of the earth, which means it'd take about 6 or 7 years to walk to the edge. crazy..

I never got into digging down or making castles. For some reason I've only liked hollowing mountains into cavernous stacked rooms while replacing dirt exterior blocks with glass and leaving stone where it is, and creating forests on top of forests. I've tried making a wide underground rail system that tries to resemble actual subway tunnels but my damn save got corrupted and I lost interest.

I'm amazed as well I'm glad I dont play Minecraft, I got addicted to Civilization V for a total of 2 hours before I realized I had to go to sleep, just because of the turn-based and economy building, games like Minecraft will get me stuck to it and I wont know the time

of course. its amazingly epic. the changing seasons, and changing climate with changing latitude. i found some crazy stuff where i had furthest explored prior to the update.
also, i purposely got lost for 2 real life days, and expanded my map size to 40mb. i had no materials, so i had to basically scavenge for stuff. i built a boat, and tried to find my way home (i refused to die). so i found a cave and dug up red rock and iron and made a compass to point my way home. it took like 20 minutes by boat to get back.
