anime with dark main char!

i am looking for any anime with the main charter is male and is like dark and cold but still fights for good or bad

Code Geass and Death Note? They do fught for good but some of their actions are not approved by me.

Darker than Black - Hei is a quiet dark character but he does protect Ein with all his might.

I was thinking of Death Note (Light) and Code Geass (Lelouch) as well

Death Note was the top show that came to my mind, he easily killed off criminals with the sense of it being justice. When people that were not criminals were involved, he eventually killed them off as well with a cold, dark attitude.

Code Geass well the main character is dark for a reason. But he does send people to their deaths with either a joy or no expression at all.

I don't think the OP meant morally conflicted characters. I think he meant dark and cold personality.

Umm.... I'm trying to think of a good example. Batman is the only one that comes to mind off hand. Maybe Wolverine in his calmer incarnations. They fight for what's right and good, but they are kind of chilly about it.

Hmm... in anime the only main character I can think of like that is... Kyon from HaruhiSuzumiya. Sort of anyway.

I guess those characters are usually the side characters, not the Hero.

Lelouch is the only one of those whom is really morally conflicted, Hei and Light both clearly fight in a dark and cold manner, so I'll second their series.

The Apothecary in Bakeneko and Mononoke is plenty dark (he fights demons), but he also has wit and style. One of the best male characters in recent anime and superbly voiced by Sakurai Takahiro.

Just kidding. An anime that fits your request well is Gundam 00. It has not 1, but 4 main male characters who work for a terrorist group trying to force peace upon the world. And yes, each and every one of them is angsty and tragic in his own way. Setsuna in particular is cold and ruthless.

shigurui i don't know if the main fits as dark chara..but at least he indeed have cold expression..
