Wow, best episode yet... that would have been the result if Alice in Wonderland was ever directed by Akira Kurosawa (Yume and Sengoku/Shakespeare adaptions)
Direction and art were excellent, perfect fit for such a light-heartened treatment of fatalism and existential nihilism (always from the rice grains' perspective) EDIT: Can someone make avatar-friendly gifs of:

I've just watched episode 8 quite late at night. I've been reading Wittgenstein recently. I'm not sure if this was a profound comment about language and meaning or complete nonsense. Or both. Or whether there's any difference. I'm going to bed now.

Even after 8 episodes, I can't tell if I like or dislike this show.
My reaction to this show goes something like this: It's not that bad, it's not that good. It is ...diverse enough in its format to keep things interesting, which is good because I don't think the individual settings/characters are strong enough to stand on their own for more than one episode. Other than that, my initial impression of this show hasn't changed much at all. Decent visuals, decent VAs, pleasant character designs, and a story that is aiming to touch on every daytime TV plot that has aired in the past 40 years. And strangely enough, out of all the outlandish character designs in this show, I found that the muted, reserved character design of Basho seems to stand out the most for me. Ponytail! |

SenColle 09 - Houjou's Pure Love Road
This is probably the most "normal" episode since the first one, with Nobunaga and the dude she crashed with, who's never been spoken of again. But as our first two-parter, it was still pretty interesting. The relationship between Jun and Shinkurou/Soun is... interesting. Soun herself is a good example of someone with such a one thought mind that she causes trouble she really doesn't intend to. The unintended consequences of people from a time of war being thrust into the relatively peaceful modern day are coming to light more and more (nice callback to the documentary episode, by the way). Ryou Hirohashi put in a good performance as Soun, and she'll get to do it again next week. Sticking with a character for more than one episode is a new direction for this series, I'm excited to see where it goes. We may even have an antagonist of sorts set up. All that slow worldbuilding and premise-setting is almost about to pay off. |

I wonder how exactly could Souun hide her identity, when her uniform had a dozen Houjou mon
Also playing volley ball with glass and a garterbelt holding her kneesocks under her sport shorts isn't very practical it was one of the funniest episodes, Souun's depression with the modern world and inability to acquire common sense (like Nobunaga in the first episode) was hilarious. Anyway, second part we'll get Mori but more likely Imagawa and Takeda, if I remember correctly they opposed Oda while their clans annihilated each other in the west. |

SenColle 10 - Shinku vs the Volcano
I thought Soun might have been exaggerating about that volcano story (because really, a volcano?), but if her demonstration of fire powers is to be believed, she was telling the truth. There may be more to these girls than they're letting on. Her complete inability to read the atmosphere made for some good gags. Especially with Kotaro. If you say you want to keep something a "secret", she'll believe you and not question further. For someone who wants to be a hero, she doesn't know the beats of the story. Some nice voice talent this week, with Ami Koshimizu as Kotaro and Ai Shimizu as Yoshimoto. (Her personality comes off pretty similar to Sengoku Otome's Yoshimoto. The only difference I can see if a nice set of underboobs.) Have to feel kind of bad for Jun. She's witnessing a world that she really has no part in, and is powerless to act. Still, her friendship with Shinku holds, and for that, at least, I'm glad. Next week: The genre roulette wheel apparently landed on Rio. |
