Two cours is a disaster if it's really just two cours. Hopefully that's just a placeholder announcement and it's actually at least 4 split.

Mmmm, I still think Narita would have been the best pick for Saito’s voice.

There’s no way it’s just two cours total. That makes no sense. The trailers have shown nothing but the Tokyo arcs, until now where we actually see the beginning of the Kyoto arc with Saito’s appearance, and there’s no way they hyped up this remake just to cover less than half of the series and stop on a cliffhanger just before the best part of the series. The lack of any of the Kyoto arc beyond Saito appearing in that trailer tells me this part will leave off on a cliffhanger (I think I have a good idea where but I won’t say to avoid spoilers for the newcomers) and the next part will cover the rest of the Kyoto arc, maybe ending on another airing split before coming back to cover the Jinchu arc.

Makes sense. 20+ eps for Tokyo arc, possible 20+ eps for Kyoto arc and 20+ for Jinchu.

Although I do wonder; will they introduce Saito Hajime as per the manga events? Or try to put him in earlier, like what they did for the live-action movie?

I wouldn't be surprised if they set him up earlier. That's kind of a trend for these remake anime's .

I don't see any reason to worry about the 2 cours announcement. I would say the logical assumption is that it will get 2 consecutive cours and then take a break before returning to cover the rest of the material. Kenshin's arcs are too big to do in a single cour, so it makes sense to do it like this, like Vinland Saga has been doing.

I see the fact that the trailers have been focused almost entirely on the Tokyo arc as another indication that this is the case. If it was just going to be 2 cours total, why would they spend so much of it on the introductory arc, which is the shortest and least popular one? We should've at least seen plenty of Kyoto stuff by now if they were planning to cover the entire manga in 2 cours total (which would be utter insanity).

Anyway, another nice PV, though it's sad to get confirmation that they didn't keep Ken Narita as Saito. Poor guy, he was the perfect replacement for Hirotaka Suzuoki, but in the end he only got to voice the character in those abysmal Kyoto OVAs.

Although Kenshin vs Shishio might be the biggest fight in the manga, I think the anime outdid itself with the handling of Kenshin vs Saito. The animation and pacing for that fight back in the 90s was amazing to watch. I hope the cours doesn't mean rushing the pacing but instead giving a minirest for the anime staff to prepare for another arc. Restoration was already a manga reboot with a faster pace to redintroduce the cast

I was not aware that the Tokyo arc was unpopular, although I did hear that originally Watsuki planned for the manga to have a much shorter run and never thought it would become popular.

Given the Tokyo arc is basically a bunch of adventures of the week, which would you say are the best and worst adventures of said arc?

I didn't say it was unpopular, I said it was the least popular, there's a difference. Kyoto and Jinchu are simply held in higher regard overall. Doesn't mean people don't like Tokyo.

As for your question, in my opinion the best parts of Tokyo were the Jinei and the Megumi/Aoshi stories, whereas the worst was the Raijuta one (which has been conspicuously absent from all the trailers thus far, which makes me wonder whether they might skip it).

Which could explain why Jinei and Megumi/Aoshi's stories got chosen to be adapted for the live movie (technically Megumi/Kanryu since Aoshi wasn't in that one, and Jinei felt more like a side role compared to Kanryu's prominence there).

Kazuhiro Fujita's works keep getting too few episodes, and Fruits Basket got like a million cours, so I'm not expecting any common sense from the anime industry

Wait doesn't Kaoru supposed to have a little brother... oh no wait that's Gintama.

I think the music department both opening and OST is a massive downgrade compared to the original, when Kenshin entered the dojo my mind was automatically playing the Kenshin theme and well it wasn't there. New voices are fine.

Still looking forward to the rest though.

Then S2 will cover the Kyoto arc, or maybe they’ll even split that into two seasons if they want to take their time with it…….

And then hopefully……FINALLY…….the Jinchuu arc!

Pretty normal first episode. Like I feared, Battousai looked "cool" and not fearsome like the image he is supposed to carry. When you look at him, he should be sending chills down your spine. Felt lacking in few but important bits like the music and the voice acting too. Every time Kaoru talked, all I heard was Megumin. Takahashi Rie in way too many shows...

Episode 1 doesn't have the big fight as those are later on in the series but it just didn't seem to excite me in any way. The live action was leagues better. You know when that music hit, shit was about to go down. This might be good for those new to the show and not having watched the older one.

So, the Reboot is more true to the Original Manga, compared to the 1996 Anime adaptation.
