I can't speak for others, but I personally felt it was more relevant than something more dated like... let's say Real Bout High School, so that's why I made the comparison.
Fair enough, but we had one guy (KS) go on a rant about how Nisio writes his stuff and how he hopes this doesn't do it (missing the point, but what's new) and another citing character designs when pressed for why.

And to add to real bout, Ikkitousen. If this isn't the best incarnation of this scenario it would be one of the greatest disappointments in anime, in Imaishi we trust.

I don't think you can compare it to either Ikkitousen or Medaka Box; it's another FIGHT THE POWER narrative similar to Imaishi's previous works. The main inspiration is Otokogumi, and it's pretty easy to tell the reason Imaishi likes it: the main character is a delinquent kid that fights against a corrupt school system and ends up discovering that the corruption runs deeper into the Japanese Government, down to the PRIME MINISTER OF DARKNESS. I wouldn't be surprised if the scale of Kill-la-Kill grows similarly large, the setting itself allows for it.

Yeah, I have no idea why someone said character designs... If anything, the designs for this remind me more of a shounen manga -- and in a good way! (Note: Not to say that the girls look like boys, because they definitely don't! The style just reminds me a combination couple of other shounen manga I've seen before. I love how rough and almost gritty it feels while having them still look very feminine. This may change once we see the final animation, but for now, I really love the vibe.)

In any case, I am also excited to see what Imaishi does with this.

I believe that if Trigger delivers, it will pretty much set the bar for the whole Girls Figthing genre.

Tomorrow? There was a Sushio illustration of Ryuuko in Febri, but that came out the 15; and they're putting a new PV in the final episode of the Gurren rerun in 10 days. I haven't heard anything about tomorrow.

I mean the hype should be getting pretty big, seeing as the people who are making are pretty big, especially with Gurren Lagann. Guess we gotta wait for more info till like August or September

I like the designs and all but... wasn't it set in an all-girl high school?
